Photos and Description of this 5 bedroom holiday home in Plymouth - Polperro House

Imposing 5 Bedrooms & 5 Bathrooms in the Harbour with 2 private parking spaces

SOUTH FACING with sun shinning in the garden from early morning until the evening allowing an uninterrupted picturesque view into the Harbour also from the 3 enormous bedrooms. Located in the heart of Polperro, overlooking the Harbour and the gentle goings with the PRICES HELD AT 2013 RATE. Property has INFINITY BROADBAND AND BT SPORT!. Comes with 2 private parking spaces in the Village, very close to all the goings on. We have not used a wide angle lens to make it look bigger, instead taking more photos of the same room and its views, allowing you to get the true size of our traditionally kept historic property. The photos from the windows and garden out to the Harbour try to show the beauty of the house, its location, the scenery and atmosphere. The photos make the opposite side look further away than it actually is. No hidden horrors are kept out of view of the photographs. Polperro House also boasts the advantage of being only five minutes drive to Looe and its sandy beach and Fowey, (pronounced Foy) being 10 minutes in the opposite direction.

Enjoy un-interrupted views from the sun drenched garden of the harbour and out to sea!

We hope as you step into the Flagstone Hallway of Polperro House you will have the same feelings as we did when we first viewed it! We were blown away by the position of the property and the house itself. As we stepped in we had our breath taken away. We felt like children in a sweetie shop, each large room delighting us with the way they have been kept to their original Cornish build and the views, well words failed us!

Polperro House was originally two separate houses, now joined into a grade II Listed house with a south facing garden enjoying its own micro climate with breath taking views of the historic harbour and on out to sea.

The house has its own `unique` history as the owner of the house at the beginning of the 1900`s was the first person in the country to own an `Automobile` which is recorded in the history books. Also, it belonged to a 'Famous local` Cornish artist called Herbert E Butler a black and white photo of him and his wife are in the kitchen stood in the entrance porch. The house was used to school art, we believe his wife originally lived in the middle of three properties before they married? The other attached house is still owned by his family members.

Live in the foot steps of Pirates and sailors from years gone by. Explore the hidden beaches and coves where the smugglers hid their barrels of rum and other `treasures`. Walk the coastal paths taking in the endless views across the ocean with the sailing ships gently gliding past, find the Tidal pool. All the local eating places come highly recommended, we believe their are 21!

Just park your car in one of our parking spaces located in the heart of the village approximately 100 metres away and drift into your relaxing holiday.

Sit on the warm Mediterranean style Patio after it has been heated by the sun and watch it set behind the westerly facing hill with a nice drink in your hand whilst listening to the soothing sounds of a small harbour. Contemplate an evening in one of the welcoming Pubs and restaurants or just sit and listen to the talk of people strolling around on the opposite side of the Harbour.

There are many events throughout the year, one being the Polperro Festival in mid June-a week of great free music and activities with the election of the new Mayor which is a far cry from the traditional!

The master bedroom has a large Victorian style ensuite bathroom with cast iron Roll Top bath and MASSIVE SHOWER, all the other bedrooms are VERY LARGE as well, another one also having a Roll Top bath and separate shower cubicle. The Double bedroom on the mid level also has a en-suite with shower, toilet and sink. The bedroom with the TRIPLE BUNK (THIS WILL BE 2 SINGLE BEDS FROM MARCH) (double on the bottom, single on top) has a large Victorian fitted hand wash basin, the entrance to the shower, toilet and sink being on the facing door of the corridor (two tiny infant steps). This bedroom also has fitted wardrobes being so big.

The downstairs lounge has a solid oak floor, the ceiling, is its original, gnarled, knotted aged pine which complements the high quality leather suite and wood structure. Leading off this ground floor room is a toilet, electric shower and wash basin to help save your legs. This is where the latest, High Speed, Broadband is located.

The kitchen has a beautiful bespoke fitted kitchen with large range cooker and quality solid oak table, oak floor and furniture.

The house was originally advertised as only accommodating 8 people but will sleep 10 as 8 is the `comfortable` seating capacity in the kitchen, downstairs lounge and the outside table.

There are three double beds (two en-suite) in three large Victorian rooms, two bunk beds in two separate rooms, one has a double bed that has single on top, a TOTAL OF 4 DOUBLE BEDS AND THREE SINGLES.

Being on the warm airflow from the Gulf Stream and hidden well below the top of the hill, Polperro enjoys its own micro climate making the winters very mild-the Nasturtiums were still in flower on Christmas day!

We spent Christmas here just after we bought it, walking about outside in T-shirts on Christmas day! Our dog loves having his ball and sticks thrown into the water in the shallow harbour or on the beach to tire him out.

The private garden is fully secure, so if your dog is not in the kitchen, they would be safe in the garden. We have a dog cage which prevented ours running around the house helping to keep it clean and odour free for the future guests.

We offer it to you as a beautiful holiday home to enjoy.

The Garden or Patio is 33 feet long, 24 feet wide. It has an eight seater glass topped rattan table, with eight seats located under the grape vine to shelter out the hot summer sun. You can sit on the Swinging Bench Seat or on the bench seats next to the patio wall to overlook the harbour whilst taking in the ambiance and gentle goings on of the harbour life down below you. Additional seating can be found in the storage shed by the side of the barbeque.

We run two other holiday homes very successfully in Somerset, these can be found on the HOMEAWAY WESTON SUPER MARE :- 1031811, Mendips View and 1038619, Crook Peak.

About Heather and Gary Priestley

We started looking for a holiday home in Cornwall so we could enjoy it along with our boys. We have tried holidaying abroad but love England and all its treasures. Polperro was our first and only choice away from home where we live in Somerset.

In Somerset we have already created two holiday homes that we have run very successfully for several years. Creating another holiday home for ourselves and for others to enjoy has been our wish and as you can see from our picture, Polperro is our Cornish dream come true.

Heather and Gary Priestley purchased this house in 2012

Why Heather and Gary Priestley chose Plymouth

Well it had to be Polperro and this fantastic original Cornish house once owned by the richest man in Polperro and around, the most idyllic spot and the property when you see it will speak for itself as to why we choose this one. Gary confirms that he had goosebumps when we walked in the door, it really is stunning and traditional.

Gary spent two weeks holiday here when he was a young boy where he spent most of the days paddling around the secluded harbour in his blow up dinghy exploring the many boats and caves.

Though it is two properties from the outside, inside it is like a TARDIS, the rooms seem to keep appearing and flow effortlessly into each other. You will be hard pushed to work out where the places used to be separated. PLEASE WATCH THE VIDEO TO BE FOUND BY SCROLLING DOWN THIS SITE AT THE END OF THE ROOM SIZES, JUST BEFORE THE REVIEWS, TO GET A TRUE FEEL FOR THE SIZE. That is not Gary`s heavy breathing in the video

Walk into the Harbour with your young family and watch them paddling in the safe shallow sea whilst sitting on the bridge wall eating your sandwich`s or ice cream bought from the best shop in Cornwall or walk onto the beach to explore the cave where possibly the Pirates used to hide their treasures?

What makes this house unique

We walked into the garden, looked at the stunning views into the Harbour, then remembered when we got our breath back, to go into the house.

The house is stunning with views of the Harbour and sea from most windows. We viewed each room and could not stop going back to the start to take in the truly great property that we were in. It has fantastic history, it is stunning and we cannot wait to enjoy it ourselves and for you to enjoy it as well.

Have your breakfast in bed and look out into the Harbour watching people going about their day, pondering what adventures you can go on, or sit out on the patio enjoying the morning sun with the rest of your family enjoying an Al Fresco breakfast.

If you like straight walls, level floors, Stark White clinical decor, high ceilings and building regulation size doors-this is not the place for you-one door is 21' x 68' and not square, several are similar in height and width, floors slope, the walls are uneven. the lounge is original, as it was years ago, with low wooden ceiling, solid oak floor, exposed stone wall, making it feel warm and relaxing. The entrance door is low and crooked, with a traditional Cornish style stable door.

This house is mentioned in the history books as belonging to the first person to own an automobile in Great Britain.

The room sizes are

Master Bedroom 17`x13` plus 13` x 9` ensuite.

Two Harbour facing bedrooms at 17` x 10` one ensuite

`Ships Cabin` 13` x 8` with bunk bed from reclaimed ships timber

Second bunk bedroom with triple bunkbed that will sleep three still with ample space 14` x 9`

Gold coloured shower/bathroom 13` x 7`

Mid floor lounge 16` x 12`

Main sitting room with leather settees 18` x 13`

Kitchen 15 ` x 15`

There is a downstairs toilet and electric shower room hidden very nicely behind the down stairs lounge next to the washing machine and tumble drier

Inside you will find it hard to see that it was originally two properties as the rooms flow from each othe

Beautiful house in picturesque location

  • 5 of 5

Fabulous house with amazing views of Classic Cornish harbour. Great facilities, very clean and comfortable with superb extras such as wood burning stove and a real sun trap of a garden. Also lovely bay window with window seat for relaxing and taking in the views. Really useful pull-in in front of the house to allow easy unloading of the car, a feature not to be underestimated in a village in which many properties are inaccessible by car. Overall a great holiday location with owners who are really easy to deal with and very accommodating about having pets to stay.

Owner's Response: Parking outside to unload and two parking spaces really close by definately one of the assets of Polperro house when you see other visitors struggling with the burden of having to drag or carry their luggage and provisions into Polperro traffic free village or using the luggage quad bike that charges in addition to parking fees in car park outside of village.

I want to buy the place and live out my dreams

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a lovely cottage that would our families with children comfortably whether the weather was good or bad and we certainly found it! The cottage itself is stunning - lots of space, top quality furniture, beautifully decorated and really good facilities (even bath toys for the kids and games for the adults!). It all felt very luxurious. Not to mention those fantastic thick towels which were a great idea as we did not have to find the extra space for in our car

The patio at the front was even better than the photos with views down on to Polperro harbour and out to sea with a great swing seat to enjoy the view with a glass of wine! The children spent many hours exploring and playing in the garden. It was also great to have parking in the village - although those narrow old streets are a bit precarious to navigate in a car!!

We could let our young children wander off down into the Harbour knowing there would be no problem with the tide and playing Pooh sticks in the stream.

We were blessed with fantastic weather for this time of year though we had come away expecting bad weather but as we found out, the climate in Cornwall is very Temperate and as Gary said we would be wearing T shirts if the sun cam out. We had two days exploring on Lantic Beach - one of the best I've seen any where. We also enjoyed just pottering around the village, sitting on the harbour wall watching the world go by and exploring the local rock pools.

Fowey is worth a day out if you like the traditional boats though I personally was glad to be be back in the house enjoying its warm ambiance and that lovely stove. I felt sad each day ended but pleased we had mde the correct choice.

Gary and Heather responded really quickly to the few issues we were concerned about before our arrival which they put us at ease, so all in all it was a perfect get away winters holiday! We would very much recommend Polperro House-the actual place is better than the photos.

We are planning to return in the summer work schedule permitting

Owner's Response: Thank you for a glowing review. We have tried our best at being honest about Polperro House. The Harbour is a great place to let the children go Ferile and still keep an eye on them. The garden is under going an update from the one in the photo and will be much larger in the summer. We are about to make the middle floor bedroom with the triple Bunk Bed into two singles. If the price is right, it is For Sale..... Maybe?

Polperro House

  • 4 of 5

Polperro House was just as we hoped it would be; quaint; quirky; warm; cosy and totally unique. Coming from Australia we were looking for a quintessential "English/Cornish" experience - we were not disappointed. There was plenty of room for the 8 adults of the party. How many bathrooms can one house have? The kitchen is brilliant and very useful for cooking the Christmas feast - three ovens no less. Our host had even put up a Christmas tree for our stay! Add to that the wonderful Blue Peter Inn, quaint shops and friendly locals, a place to recommend without doubt.

What a find! Not to be missed

  • 5 of 5

We found this fantastic place at the last minute as we have been to Polperro many times and have always dreamed of staying in the village itself and this enormous house did not disappoint! We had glorious views from almost every room in the house and the location was peaceful and tranquil. Everything that you can think of is provided by the owners and the information/instructions given to us were clear and helpful. The property was clean and little touches such as providing a mobile phone to use (as the service in Polperro isn't good) was very thoughtful. We stayed with 4 children and their grandparents and there was more than enough space for all of us, without getting in each other's way! Having 2 parking spaces within walking distance of the cottage was fantastic and there is an abundance of fantastic eating places near by. Overall a fantastic property to stay in and I would highly recommend a stay. We are saving to go back in the summer and try that rock pool and sea

Great place to get away from the Ratrace

  • 5 of 5

We have been to many places in Cornwall, Polperro has to be one of the best in my opinion. Staying in such a fantastic piece of historic architecture has been our quest when we book a place on this fantastic country. Polperro House ticked all the boxes and surpassed our expectations on arrival. We loved the vast sized bedrooms and accompanying ensuites all kept in character of the style of house.

We highly recommend that if you are thinking of booking you will not be disappointed.

Thank you Heather and Gary

Happy place, contrasting with the familiar

  • 5 of 5

All the previous reviews are spot on- Polperro House is as wonderful as it sounds and looks. It is a large, beautifully presented and very well-equipped house which has a sense of history, character and place. This is important, as on holiday, we are often looking for something that contrasts with the familiar and everyday. Polperro House wants you to feel at home, to enjoy the place and it seems to give this so readily- it's a happy place. We had a family gathering and the youngest visitor was 5 weeks old- no problem, she loved the sea air! The house is large, spacious and allows togetherness in the lovely kitchen around the farmhouse table, or outside on the stunning sun terrace, as well as sufficient room for quiet places and quiet times (the pretty extra sitting room upstairs overlooking the harbour is perfect). Exactly as described, the house is generous (5 bathrooms), comfortable and all works well. The kitchen is particularly well-equipped- good cooking equipment and lots of cutlery/crockery. It was a pleasure to barbecue the fish caught in the morning by family members only hours later! Most of the rooms have spectacular views across the harbour and it is as pretty by day as by night; all the harbour lights come on and twinkle against the darkening blue-black evening sky- it just needs to be experienced. Transcendental moments!. The owners were most helpful in replying to our (few) questions promptly and they ensured we were happy with everything- they made it very easy for us. The house is located halfway up the terraced hillside, giving sublime views over all below. The beauty of this is that you feel part of the place, watching all the activity below, while simultaneously being slightly distanced- perfect. Holidays should allow for the space and time to simply just 'be'. Although Polperro is a picturesque and 'historic' fishing harbour, it is not just a postcard kind of place; it is lively, busy, still used by local fishermen and there is a strong sense of community which is welcoming and inclusive (great live music at the weekends). Lots of artistic activity too; it has a heart and soul still. Lots to do without ever going in the car (2 private parking spaces a few minutes walk away); swimming, crabbing, fishing and walking on the glorious coastal paths. Excellent food in pubs/restaurants and small local shops provide much of what you might need. A magical place to be, we miss it!
