Sitting atop a slight hill, backed by acres of rock mountains, this comfortable ranch home has everything you're looking for. The 3 bedrooms, over sized living room and separate office give plenty of space for your family vacation or group retreat. The outdoor hot tub is large enough for your whole party with incredible views of the valley.
Be sure to explore the natural desert flora and fauna including our self-guided nature hike. The sunsets are best enjoyed from the top of the rise behind the house and there is nothing more spectacular than watching a universe of twinkling stars from the warmth of the spa as coyotes howl across the valley. Watch for shooting stars or enjoy our desert landscape and make it a romantic getaway.
We fell in love with this place the moment we saw it and so will you! It's so quiet and peaceful and the lovely views change as the sun moves across the sky. We got married in the National Park so it's very special to us. We never tire of visiting and we hope you won't either.

We traveled from Brooklyn, NY for a wedding. We loved staying here, it has all the comforts of home, a gorgeous view and veyr nice home owners. Thank your for making our stay very amazing.
Location is very close to park entrance and the house offered all amenities. There was plenty of space for us and the place was clean and well-appointed. It was everything we were looking for in terms for quick access to park and also a nice place to unwind. Laura was very quick with her responses and accommodating. I would love to return soon!
The place was fantastic. The location was perfect for the wedding we were attending and the hot tub and backyard hike were added bonuses. The description of the house was spot on and was definitely quite the find for us so close to our trip. Much recommended and would love to make it back. Thanks Laura!
Overall, great place and exactly what my group and I were looking for. Beautiful views, nicely located hot tub, comfy interior, and well equipped.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Desert House. We found it to be clean and comfortable. The beds and pillows in the Master Bedroom seemed new and there were plenty of fluffy towels in the linen closet. All the appliances worked and the kitchen offered every pot, pan, and gadget we needed - very well stocked for doing one's own cooking, even baking. We loved the large master shower. Bathrooms were also clean and reasonably well-supplied. The house has a nice layout and would work well for families. My brother-in-law and niece joined us briefly because they are tennis fans and the house made a good base for attending the tournament in nearby Indian Wells. There was plenty of room for all. We enjoyed poking through the many brochures on the bar and came up with some good ideas for our day exploring the Palm Springs area, about 40 minutes away. The DVD player worked fine and, compared to some places we’ve stayed that don’t have anything like that, we thought the collection was pretty decent. Also enjoyed the book-swap shelf. The hot tub was fantastic - although one does need to pay attention to the instructions to heat it, and it did need to be filled. There did seem to be some sand around the top, but, hey! it's the desert! It was basically clean and delightfully hot. The view was great, day and night. By day one can see the whole valley below framed by the mountains, and the railway cars directly across. (According to the Nature Trail info they're a museum - we'll have to check it out on a future visit.) The sky was a lovely blue every day we were there. By night it was almost magical, with the clear, BRIGHT stars above and the valley lights below. The Nature Trail was a bonus - a good introduction to desert flora, and a good stretch of the legs after a lazy morning. We appreciated the instruction book near the front door and info by the phone, which provide information one needs to know. It was a bit frustrating that our cell phones didn't work very well, but we were at least able to use them enough to share the house phone # which worked fine. The owners were very responsive in answering several questions we had prior to our visit; we didn't need to contact them once there. The directions to find the place were right on. The location is perfect for those seeking quiet relaxation - it's very private, and yet the town isn't too far away for basic supplies. The proximity to the Nat'l Pk is great too for those who like outdoor adventure.
I was a little worried when I read the previous review right before I headed up to the Desert House for a week, but I am happy to say that my experience was great, and not at all like the one that reviewer had.
That reviewer did have some valid complaints--we also found that the DVD library is pretty inadequate, and I'm glad that those folks purchased and left the new player behind because we just went to RedBox in Yucca Valley and rented DVDs that we wanted to watch. I also agree that the owners may be having a problem with the cleaning staff not being very careful or thorough, but the place was perfectly serviceable. This home is a bit do-it-yourself and is not for fussy people--the carpets are a bit worn, the pots, pans and kitchen ware are not chef-quality, the hot tub requires additional water from the hose on a daily basis, the laundry/utility room shelves are overflowing with miscellaneous hardware and various things previous guests have left behind.
All of that said, the house is VERY comfortable and has a wonderful layout for hanging out and enjoying the beautiful desert environment from both inside and outside. There is a back room with a bar (and wood paneling!) from which we could sit and enjoy the sunset when it was too cold to stand outdoors, or where an adult could quietly enjoy a book while the kids played in the main living area. The mattresses are comfortable and seem new, and there are plenty of clean towels for everyone. The washer, dryer, refrigerator and dishwasher are all modern and worked great. Best of all, you can hike up into the rocks right behind the house for as long or short as you wish.
The house was warm, the beds comfortable, the kitchen was great, nice size rooms, and it's in a convenient location. The price was excellent. However, there were a few things that were subpar.
The hot tub was not useable the first night even after we worked on it for 2 hours. We followed the directions as outlined in the "house directions information". Eventually, the following evening, we figured out the problem - we needed to prime the pump; this wasn't something that should have been on us to accomplish. Further, the tub looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in some time - not just sand but quite a few bugs and leaves and other scree.
The dvd/vcr didn't work. Every time we turned it on, it turned itself off. A tape was jammed in the machine and wouldn't come out. We bought a $25 dvd player and a few dvds for ourselves so we could enjoy our evenings the way we expected to. We left the player at the house.
The video library: There are about 12 VCR movies but 1/3 to 1/2 of them are broken [tapes ripped or face plates detached - no doubt eaten by the broken VCR]. And the dvd's titles aren't even worth mentioning in terms of content.
We called the numbers listed in the "house direction folder" on our second day and the maintenance contact number was disconnected. The owner called us later on Saturday to check in and we indicated the problems. She said the maintenance number was not disconnected and we called it one more time to check and it was. Perhaps the number in the green information packet was wrong? But I doubt it.
In general, a decent place to stay - so close to the park. I think the owners
We are located just one mile from West Entrance to Joshua Tree National Park and all it has to offer for hiking, rock climbing, biking, horseback riding and exploring. If quiet and solitude are on your list, it is there for the taking.
It is an easy drive to museums, golf, shopping, art galleries and even southern California's famous theme parks. Great local restaurants are nearby for a night out. We are only 45 minutes from Palm Springs and all it has to offer. The Desert House is an excellent vacation rental with something for everyone.
