Up until the 1960's Albufeira was just a small fishing village. As the decade progressed, tourism made its mark on the town, and since then substantial developments have transformed it into one of the most famous holiday resorts in Portugal, with more than 100 hotels, apartments and villa rentals on offer across the coastline. Despite these luxury developments, some of the Old Town has remained the same, and with its cobbled streets winding up the hillside, it is still easy to get a feel of how the little village once. Tradition and luxury combine when you stay at a private villa in Albufeira.
The Old Town of Albufiera has a laid back, relaxed feel about it. The central square is tree lined and surrounded by cafes and restaurants. From there, narrow streets lead off to an array of shops including quaint boutiques, leather shops and souvenir shops, along with additional bars and restaurants.
English is spoken by many, and most restaurants will provide you with an English menu. If you are staying at one of our villas in Albufeira, it isn't really necessary to rent a car – especially since parking can be difficult. Albufeira is known for its family entertainment. The most popular attractions include the Aqualand pool and water park and the Zoomarine theme park. All around Albufeira you will find ticket offices selling excursions to these and many other outings and day trips.
