**Endorsed by the Andalucian Tourist Board ** Feedback from our guests who have come via Spanish Holiday Cottages has won us numerous awards..

With breathtaking views of the Sierra Nevada mountains this stunning apartment is a home away from home throughout the whole year. The historic city of Granada is less than 20 minutes away. The secluded beaches are only 45 mins away.

The price includes central heating, air-con, TV (with some UK & European Channels), community WiFi and supply of MiFi unit (top up at guests discretion), secure parking, high standard of furnishings & equipment. There will be a complimentary local wine and tapas to welcome you on arrival. Our keyholders have been congratulated for their excellent customer service many times!

This is something we are very happy with as we believe that our guests not only deserve luxury accommodation but also great customer service and attention to detail.

From the living room and bedroom there is wonderful mountain scenery that you can also enjoy from the large balconies. The apartment is 20 mins from Granada/Alhambra Palace a world UNESCO site, and about 25 mins from ski resort. Güejar Sierra, with its cobbled streets and flower draped balconies is something of an undiscovered gem - a well kept Spanish secret. This is where the sophisticated Granadinos and those 'in the know' come to enjoy the best of all that the Sierra Nevada can offer. The village has great tapas bars, restaurants, two lovely pools in summer. We are happy to help organise chef services, tapas tours, hiking, biking, horse-riding, canoeing, treasure hunts for children.

Bookable local activities: We can arrange local walks, mountain hikes, kayaking, climbing and mountain biking with qualified local guides. Also horse-riding, massage therapy and cultural or culinary tours of Granada.

The balcony from the living room has a table and chairs so that you can enjoy the views with some wine after a day site seeing or just relaxing. Because travelling is never easy with young ones there is a baby/toddler pack available at the apartment to help take the stress out of travelling. This includes travel cot, toys/books, high chair seat adaptor. Please enquire at time of booking. There are many new play parks in the village that are fantastic for young ones. Children are made very welcome in the village.

Sierra Nevada ski resort: The apartment is ideally placed for skiing at Pradollano in the Sierra Nevada. The Sierra Nevada boasts some of the highest downhill runs in Europe as well as being the most southerly - so it often enjoys better snow than the Alps. The resort - with its superb services and installations was built for the World Ski Championships and has been selected for the 2015 Winter Universiade, the World University Games, and offers its visitors a wide range of facilities and a ski terrain to suit skiers & boarders of all standards. There are 100 km of ski runs, 117 pistes and nearly 400 snow machines guaranteeing snow on the slopes. There is also night skiing by floodlight! As one of Europe's highest resorts it has a surprisingly long season and traditionally opens at the end of November running through to the end of April or even into the first week of May. The resort is so far south that the climate is superb for brushing up on your tan and on clear days there are views of Africa from the top! You can now hire skis in the village and the shop also runs a transport service for those who do not wish to drive the 25 minutes to the ski resort.

About Anita Gackowska

I have travelled extensively both for work and for pleasure and fell in love with Güejar Sierra the moment I saw it. I first had an apartment in Puerto Banus some 15 years ago and subsequently I have owned and refurbished many properties over the last 10 years in the Granada area. Living here in Granada I have the 'on the spot' local knowledge that can point you in the right direction to make the most of your time here. I also know numerous other parts of Spain that you may wish to visit during your time here. I bought this apartment as a perfect getaway location in the sun and it has proved to be a true gem.

Although I currently work in the wonderful city of Madrid, I consider Guejar Sierra my home and love coming home to each weekend to enjoy the stunning scenery and delicious local food. I now have a house in the village and enjoy renting my apartment to people who I know will love the village and area as much as I do.

Anita Gackowska purchased this apartment in 2005

Why Anita Gackowska chose Granada

This luxury apartment is ideally located in the beautiful mountain village of Güejar Sierra - just outside the world famous Moorish city of Granada. Recently decorated and updated. As I have travelled extensively I have furnished the apartment with unique items of furniture and decorations not only from Granada and other parts of Spain but also from different countries. All of which gives an wonderful welcoming environment to base yourself in Andalusia. Güejar Sierra is a small mountain town or large village, preserving the traditional mountain architecture of the region at its heart. It is skirted by the crystal clear waters of the River Genil and perched in a dramatic position on the slopes of the Cerro del Calar - with panoramic views of the rugged Sierra Nevada mountains just at the point where they dip their toes into the beautiful Canales reservoir. The surroundings offer the visitor great natural beauty, chestnut forests, old quarries of serpentine and green jasper and the historic remains of the old funicular (built by an eccentric Italian Duke) which used to wind its way up the Sierra Nevada. Two of the attractive old stone tram stops in Maitena and El Charcon have been converted to lovely restaurants on the banks of the Genil, where the fresh, clean waters are delicious for a swim in the summer.

Güejar Sierra is also a great centre for year-round adventure activities. It’s an ideal base for mountain biking, walks of all levels, ice/rock climbing, canoeing, rafting, paragliding, horse-riding etc. And, at only 20 mins from historic Granada and the Alhambra Palace.

It is as lovely place to be whether the season; in the winter surrounded by snow capped mountains, in the spring with the cherry blossom in bloom, in the summer the endless blue skies and in the autumn, the colours of the trees.

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment is beautifully furnished and very COMPETITVELY priced. There will be a complimentary local wine, or beer, and tapas to welcome you on arrival. Our keyholder will give you a briefing on all the hidden treats that the area has to offer - LOCAL INSITE that will help yo enjoy your stay in Guejar Sierra to the fullest! We pride ourselves on our great customer service and have a fully up to date and comprehensive guest information book which details bars/restaurants/fiesta/bus timetables/things to do and see both in Guejar but also in Granada. Imagine sitting on the balcony of this large comfortable apartment and enjoying the spectacular views of the snow capped mountains with a glass of wine. Paradise!

A comfortable apartment in a very pretty village

  • 5 out of 5
We wanted a relaxing break and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this comfortable apartment in this very pleasant village. The apartment is clean, well equipped and nicely decorated and the view from the balcony is stunning. Anita had many suggestions about things to do during our time in the area and the information that she left in the apartment was very helpful.

Rosie met us at the bus and was also extremely helpful. She had great suggestions about restaurants and grocery stores and made it clear that we were to call if we had any questions or needed anything. The cherry jam is fantastic!

The bus between the village and Granada is efficient and prompt and we were glad of the information about where to get the bus in Granada that Anita provided beforehand. The trip takes forty minutes on a very scenic, fairly steep and very winding road.

Guejar Sierra is a very pretty village and we enjoyed walking around it. The people who live there were friendly and very patient and tolerant of our faltering Spanish.

We would be happy to mention this apartment to anyone that we know who is looking for an experience like we had in Guejar Sierra. Thank you Anita and Rosie for a very relaxing holiday.

Well-appointed, very clean, fabulous views!

  • 5 out of 5
This was the perfect place for a quiet getaway. The flat is beautifully clean and well-equipped and the views are absolutely stunning. Rosie is very helpful (we would never have found the property without her to direct us even with Anita's excellent, detailed directions.) The free tapas are very welcome and the folders of information are invaluable. We followed the advice about restaurants and were not disappointed.
The village has everything you need for a true Spanish experience and everyone is most helpful.
We visited Granada (a short drive away) several times, as there is plenty to do and see there. The Alhambra is a must, as are the tapas bars. The only downside is the number of street vendors trying to sell their wares as you enjoy a meal or a visit to a site.
We would definitely recommend this property to friends and hope to visit again ourselves. Thank you Anita and Rosie for a truly memorable holiday.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We are delighted that you enjoyed the holiday. It is really important for us not only to provide a clean and well equipped apartment but also to provide our guests with the best customer service!
The village does provide a truly Spanish experience! And the views from the apartment are really stunning. The locals are super friendly, and there are great places to eat. My favourites are the Hacilla and Bar Poli which you may have tried. Two different eating experiences but both with atmosphere and great food!
Granada is close by and there are places there that you can experience Andalucian life without the hassle of street vendors. We try to use our local knowledge to help our guests have a memorable time and are delighted when they recommend us, and we look forward to welcoming you back. Maybe next time you would like to visit during one of the numerous fiestas we have, the Cherry fiesta, May Crosses, the annual village fiesta in August, etc. There is always a reason to visit Guejar Sierra!
I will pass on your best wishes to Rosie. Best regards, Anita

Great!

  • 4 out of 5
We loved this place: modern apartment with great appliances, beautiful views, close to the mountain, friendly small town, well equipped kitchen, etc. I think this may have been our favorite place out of the 11 that we stayed at during our trip.

However, we were annoyed that we had to pay for our own internet through MIFI Orange despite the claim of this ad that internet is included. I had to curtail my activities due to the cost and the fact that I could not find anywhere how much bandwidth I was purchasing.

Also, the bathroom window was almost transparent. We hung a towel.

Great chill out place. With great wifi.

  • 5 out of 5
We booked last minute and Anita was brilliant at sorting everything out for us. Rosie was helpful on tips on what to see and do locally, but most of the time we just chilled out which was just great. Had to do some work and it was great having the wifi/mifi thing. Was connected but a million miles away! The places to eat and drink in the village were lovely. We would definitely recommend this lovely apartment to our friends! It was really clean comfortable and stylishly decorated. A short break but enjoyed our time immensely.

Guejar Sierra is a traditional white mountain village with cobbled streets in a stunning location less than 20 min. east of historic Granada (Alhambra Palace) and 25 min. from the Sierra Nevada ski resort (Pradollano). Beautiful views abound everywhere & many local restaurants traditionally open up swimming pools in the summer or lakeside/riverside dining terraces overlooking the Rio Genil or the blue waters of the Canales Reservoir. Great family activity location, walks begin from the doorstep and there are also opportunities for mountain-biking, horse-riding, climbing, canoeing, paragliding. This is also a great base from which to explore historic Granada, with its beautiful Moorish buildings, Alhambra Palace & fascinating Moroccan bazaar. Costa Tropical Beaches - 45 min. Guadix caves - 35 min. Water Park - 15 min. Also great romantic getaway for couples with excellent restaurants, or just a place to relax, enjoy the welcoming Spanish atmosphere & while the day away with free tapas.

Other Activities: Sierra Nevada Ski Resort - 25 min., Alhambra Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site - less than 20 mins, Family Water Park at Cenes - 15 min.

Golf: There are now three golf courses in Granada and more within reasonable driving distance such as the one at Motril on the Costa Tropical (9 holes). The 18 hole Granada Club de Golf is signposted from Armilla. No reservations necessary. Clubs can be hired and if you play in the morning, the cost for 18 holes is approximately 20 Euro (more on Sundays and festivals).

Ski: Skiing is available at the Sierra Nevada ski resort. At over 9,000 ft it is one of the highest resorts in Europe and can be reached from Guejar Sierra within 25 min. An international ski school is available on site. There are 70km of ski runs, 45 pistes (with more than enough variety to suit all levels), 300 snow machines and views of Africa from the top.

This is the most southerly ski resort in Europe and, while smaller than some of the other major European resorts, the facilities are considered top rate and it has therefore hosted numerous national and international ski events. With great family facilities on offer as well, Sierra Nevada defies many concepts associated with skiing. Located close to the Mediterranean coast, it has practically guaranteed sunshine, the best spring snow conditions in Europe and is still reasonably priced compared to many of its European counterparts. It is possible to ski in the morning and enjoy lunch at the beach in the sunshine.
