GORGEOUS 6 BEDROOM 16TH CENTURY FARMHOUSE NEAR BURY ST EDMUNDS

Photos and Description of this 6 bedroom holiday farmhouse in Bury St Edmunds - Nowton Lodge Farm

Luxurious 16th Century Suffolk Farmhouse - 6 Bedrooms that Sleeps up to 16

Our beautiful, comfortable, spacious and unusual Grade 2 listed Tudor Farmhouse, is just 10 minutes from the centre of Bury St Edmunds. Whether it is for reunions and gatherings for friends, families, cyclists, walkers, bird watchers, or civilised hen parties then Nowton Lodge Farm is the perfect setting.

We have a large living space for groups to celebrate together and a separate drawing room overlooking the garden if you require downtime. Plenty of wildlife can be seen in the grounds from owls to woodpeckers, even muntjac and stoats if you are quiet.

Situated in the heart of the Suffolk countryside in a Protected Landscape Area opposite the 200 acre Nowton Park we are set away from the road in grounds of 2 acres with plenty of parking and it is just a 4 mile taxi journey to Bury St Edmunds train station for our guests traveling up from London by train.

With 6 large double bedrooms we comfortably sleep 13 people; 4 of the bedrooms have double beds and 1 bedroom has two single beds and one has three single beds.

We also have up to 3 further single beds in storage that can be placed into 2 of the bedrooms making one a triple room and one a quadruple, by agreement in advance (for a supplementary fee).

There is a spacious dining area and large dining table that seats 12 next to a wood burner set in an inglenook fireplace which is perfect for that large family gathering, and is ideal for Christmas and New Year get togethers.

The kitchen has an Aga, which makes the most perfect roast dinners, as well as a modern electric hob and oven.

The Drawing Room has an Open Fire and large screen plasma TV & DVD. There is Wifi Internet throughout the property.

We provide a welcome basket on arrival and will endeavor to accommodate all requests and ensure your stay is both memorable and fantastic.

Our weekly holiday bookings have a change over day Friday.

Why Gary Keens chose Bury St Edmunds

Long before cars it was the nightly stopover for the Colchester to Norwich leg of the London to Norwich coach, passengers staying in the Lodge Inn with the Coach House for the coach man, so has been welcoming guests for hundreds of years.

It was once owned by Gainsborough Dupont, nephew of Thomas Gainsborough - unfortunately no masterpieces were found in the attic!

Nowton Lodge Farm is situated in the village of Nowton, opposite the village pond and opposite Nowton Park in a protected landscape area.

Bury St Edmunds is approximately 2 miles away, Newmarket 19 miles, Cambridge 31 miles, Nowich 44 miles and London just 83 miles.

The historic cathedral town of Bury St Edmunds offers an excellent range of amenities plus extensive shopping and leisure facilities.

Warm, welcoming and comfy!

This was the perfect spot for our large family gathering - ages 11 - 88! The house slept 14 of us comfortably, with 4 teen girls in the biggest bedroom. The house had everything we needed and an absolutely beautiful setting. The stairs are a bit precarious for the elderly, and in the smallest top floor room the window would not open, but with a fan we were fine. All the other rooms had gorgeous views. The kitchen was great for cooking and hanging out together. Modern amenities, with country charm. Owner Kay was wonderful and came by to check on us. Would love to return and stay longer!

Large family gathering

  • 4 out of 5
We needed a large house that would accommodate lots of children ! The kids loved it being able to run around free to explore whilst the adults sat and chatted in the farm house kitchen while cooking ...this lovely farm house does what it says on the tin and was a wonderful place for our three families to stay all together under one roof in a relaxed large country house that was within our budget .....

Beautiful property & fantastic location

Beautiful property & fantastic location
  • 5 out of 5
A gorgeous farmhouse located the near picturesque Bury St Edmunds, and the beautiful Nowton Park just minutes away. We spent a week during the summer holidays in Nowton Lodge farmhouse - the large, historic property is surrounded by beautiful grounds and was perfect for our family and children. With local attractions and the town a sort distance away makes this holiday home the perfect place to stay. We will definitely be visiting again next year!

The owners were really helpful ahead of our stay and were always happy to respond to any queries we had during our holiday - a very welcoming feeling.

Thanks Gary & Kay for a truly memorable stay!
