Long before cars it was the nightly stopover for the Colchester to Norwich leg of the London to Norwich coach, passengers staying in the Lodge Inn with the Coach House for the coach man, so has been welcoming guests for hundreds of years.
It was once owned by Gainsborough Dupont, nephew of Thomas Gainsborough - unfortunately no masterpieces were found in the attic!
