Broadstairs, 'the Jewel of Thanet', has something for everyone. It is one of the few traditional seaside places with its own harbour that is not spoilt by tourism and development.
5 minutes from the house are the beautiful sands of Viking Bay
In the summer Viking Bay plays host to Punch and Judy, a children’s holiday programme a surfing school as well as trampolines, old-fashioned pull swings, and shower, toilet and lift facilities on the beach. To make an extra special seaside break why not rent your own beach hut; these can be hired daily, weekly, monthly, or or seasonally.
Almost on the beach is the Palace Cinema, this is fabulous for the family as it is cosy and friendly showing all the latest films in a unique atmosphere.
Visit the spectacular award-winning Turner Contemporary Art Gallery in nearby Margate. This is free and fantastic for children and adults with activities laid on at the weekends for the younger ones.
Broadstairs was Charles Dickens favourite seaside holiday destination. Bleak house stands tall on the cliffs overlooking Viking Bay surrounded by old flint fishermen cottages and windy lanes. The Dickens Museum is well worth a visit, as is the Charles Dickens Public House serving tasty meals overlooking the bay. Broadstairs celebrates the famous author once a year in June with Dickens Week in which the locals dress up in old Victorian costumes and parade around the streets of this beautiful seaside resort.
There is a lovely walk from Broadstairs to Ramsgate encountering rock pools, fossils sandy bays and fantastic views whether you do it along the beach at low tide or on the cliff tops to the nearby town.
At Ramsgate is the glittering Royal harbour with its colourful bustling boats, seaside cafés and restaurants. You can sit down to a well earned hot chocolate outside watching the boats bumping about and relax in the glorious sunshine.
If you are eating in Broadstairs you are spoilt for choice just a stones throw away from the house are a multitude of different menus to dip into from Mediterranean to world cuisine Our favourite is Osteria Pizzeria Posillipo which overlooks Viking Bay and serves the best pizzas and Italian food in England in our opinion.
For golfers, there are a number of golf courses within easy reach, including the famous Royal St George's at Sandwich, home to the Open Championship 2011.
The Winter Gardens in Margate hosts an extensive variety of acts ranging from JLS to Michael McIntyre.
