Anassa Historical House is approved by Greek Tourism Organization with license number: 1041K070G(Gamma in Greek)0017701.

The Anassa house can accommodate 6 people in beds and up to 8 people.

The two-story house is a Venetian Mansion with some Turkish elements added later. This building has been characterised as a preservable monument and the house has been experiencing the transitions of history.

It was originally owned by a Turkish aristocratic family of Edehm Klapsarakis who was a merchant and also the Muslim Elders and Efkafio, and it was established between 1866 and 1870 as the State Hospital and a little later the Municipal Hospital.

Then the house was sold to the father of Amalia Savakis, a noble woman in the town. The title of the house “ANASSA” includes her initials.

Subsequently the house is sold to its current owner, the Stefanakis family and it was restored with patience, respect and knowledge by them, maintaining absolutely every architectural elements as well as the simple luxury and nobleness that characterised it and distinguished it from the rest of the buildings.

It is now offering you a stay in a unique and special building that you will always remember. It is a building carrying a famous past which now offers all the comforts of the present.

Entering the building, a staircase leads you up to the entrance of the house. After the entrance door, there is a spacious and high ceiling open living and dining area and access to the terrace with a wonderful view over the old town, the Fortezza Castle and the sea where the guests can enjoy their breakfast or sunbathe. The living room area has a sofa, TV, office space, a kitchenette and a toilet. The same floor also has a bedroom with 2 single beds.

Then there are 2 different stairs lead you up to the rest of two double bedrooms. All of bedrooms have their own bathroom and kitchenette. The beds are also pieces of art, some of them are of iron work and other are carved wood, work done by old Rethymnian carpenters.

The house is situated in the historic centre of the old town of Rethymno, a town that has been hailed more than anyone else. Being located on one of the most commercial street in Rethymno, all kinds of shops and amenities can be reached on foot and the beach is only 100 meters away. You will have hundreds of choices for restaurants, cafes, shops of any kind and bars or night clubs to go!

Amazing house!

This is a wonderful building, set in the pedestrianised old town, a great location in a lovely tourist centre. The owners collected us from the bus station and made us feel very welcome, with gifts of wine, raki and salted almonds (to which we are now addicted). We were the first people to stay at the house, and though we loved it there were a few teething problems, which I understand the owners intend to sort out. The main difficulty is that there are four small kitchens, only really suitable for preparing breakfast and snacks, so self catering is difficult. The other problem was that the two bedrooms fronting the street were very noisy throughout the night and we were woken many times by the noise of passers by. We bought earplugs but were still disturbed, and this was in low season. If these matters are rectified I would highly recommend Villa Anassa.
