About Julia Horne

The house had no name when we bought it. Eagle owls live in the cliffs behind the house calling most evenings and occasionally swoop over the house and garden. Hibou is french for owl!

Julia Horne purchased this villa in 2004

Why Julia Horne chose Bargemon

We fell in love with the views and the location. The house was renovated to be a real home from home where we could all relax and enjoy the warmth and sunshine of southern France. Eagle owls can be heard calling most evenings along the cliffs above the house. These hugh majestic birds have even been seen flying over head in the garden, hence the name Hibou (owl) Heights.

What makes this villa unique

The Balcony in front of the house gives a fantastic open feel... you become at one with the views. We eat all meals on it using one area for breakfast (sunny) and a different one for lunch (Shady) still leaving ample room for sunbathing or snoozing!

OUT OF THIS WORLD PROPERTY- a dream holiday

  • 5 out of 5
I almost don't want to write this review, I want to keep this incredible holiday home a secret. We visited Hibou heights this summer as a group of 8 adults. It was so amazing to find a property that had 4 big and beautifully decorated rooms each with their own bathroom. The beds were also large and very comfortable.

When you arrive at the property the drive is rather steep but is well worth it- the views that greet you are out of this world. The layout of the house allows you to enjoy these beautiful views all day long from the lovely huge balcony where we spent hours dining just gazing out across Provence. A big and very, very well equipped kitchen made cooking easy. A large number of glassware and crockery meant not too much washing up- the dishwasher took on that job! another treat on holiday!

The pool was a big hit with all of us, beautifully clean and the perfect temperature with the bonus of using a salt system meant no stinging eyes or drying skin! The area around the pool is charming with olive trees providing shade in the midday heat. Ping pong table and badminton set meant the 'boys' were always entertained. Even plastic glasses for those evening drinks by the pool.

Every small detail has been thought of at Hibou heights, the owner even leaves a very useful information book with restaurant recommendations, ideas for days out and info about surrounding area, shops, doctors etc. we had great days out to the local lakes and to a nearby hill top village.

The property was very clean and well maintained, when we arrived it was very late and the owner had kindly set us up with a few essentials in the fridge, cold wine, beer and some milk for the morning- very thoughtful.

The property's position is not only perfect for views but it also allows you privacy, yet it is a lovely stroll into the gorgeous village where you can pick up lots of delicious fresh food, wines or have a coffee in the square. The locals are very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a delicious meal out in a restaurant recommended by the owner too.

Julia the owner, is very helpful when booking the property and is always quick to reply to your messages and questions.

I can not recommend this property more highly. It was the most magical place to stay and we look forward to returning year after year! hopefully it does not get booked up!

The medieval hillside village of Bargemon is a gastronomic centre with seven delightful restaurants: my personal favourites are La Campana, where the lamb is cooked on an open fire, La Pescalune, where Virgine cooks a fusion of international flavours and L'Arlequin which does a great value menu du jour. At The Cafe du Commerce one can sit in the open air and watch the world go by. There are a number of shops: a mini-supermarket, butcher, baker, wine shop, pharmacy, DIY/garden, garage. There are also museums and art galleries. The weekly market has good fruit/vegetables, bread and olives. There are many nearby vineyards which encourage tasting and offer a selection of different wines. The surrounding area is ideal for walking, cycling and horse-riding. There are golf courses locally. The spectacular Verdon Gorges are a short drive away and the seaside towns of St. Tropez and Cannes are an hour's drive.
