Olive Cottage sleeps 4 plus a cot. Lovely, quirky holiday home set in it's own large secure garden. There are lots of olive trees and views over the fields. Relax in the private over ground pool.
The house is decorated in it's own individual 'chateau chic' style, albeit on a small scale, but with the family in mind.

The front door leads to the bright, sunny living room, equipped with French and UK free serve TV, DVD and videos. Free WIFI connection. Off this room is a separate kitchen, fully equipped with dishwasher, fridge/freezer, electric oven and hob, microwave, coffee maker etc. There is a kitchen table, when you can't eat outside. The bathroom has a bath with a shower inside, toilet, sink and washing machine. There is a double bedroom downstairs (off the living room), with space for a cot (provided on request).
The spiral staircase leads to the upstairs bedroom. The bedroom has it's own door off a small landing. The bed can be either a double or a set of twin beds, depending on your needs. There is a further single fold-out bed if you need it. There is a second toilet and sink in the corner.
The living room has double French windows that lead to a terrace. A large roll-out blind makes a perfect area to sit and relax, eat or have a drink - a great, secluded suntrap.
The new, wooden, overground pool (@ 8.5m x 4.5m) is easy to watch from the patio. The garden is not overlooked and has off street parking.
There is an mediterranean alley of olive trees (hence the name) and lavender leading down the garden, the back overlooks the fields and lots of mature trees. The garden is walled all around. There's plenty of safe space for playing games - table tennis table include - whilst the adults relax with a chilled glass of local Pineau.
The house has heating for all year round rental.
2013 is the first year the owners will be renting out their lovely holiday cottage.

I have lived in the next village with my family since 2001, so have a good knowledge of the local area and am happy to answer any questions. I have a lot of experience in looking after gites, both of my own and other peoples. 2013 is the first rental year for Olive Cottage and I think we've hit the right note with this house.
We bought this cottage because of its fantastic location close to many historic and beautiful towns. It is also within an hour's drive of the Atlantic coast with its many miles of secluded sandy beaches. The cottage itself is beautifully furnished with a large, safe (lockable gates) garden. all in all, a stay at Olive Cottage combines total relaxation with the opportunity to do many varied activities.
Olive Cottage is a lovely cottage located in the village of Varaize, with it's Romanesque church. The area surrounded by vineyards and woodland. Situated at under 10 minutes drive to the historic market town of St Jean d'Angely where you will find supermarkets, fresh produce market, loads of restaurants, an indoor swimming pool complex, with spas, large water slide and swimming pools, there's also saunas and gym. Other outside activities included the river Boutonne, where you can rent kayaks and pedalos, a large park with a playground, crazy golf, and restaurant. Enjoy nice walks along the river or go riding at one of the local horse riding centres. There are some interesting historic buildings at St Jean, including a museum and the never finished Royal Abbey. The town is also famous for it's motocross tracks, which hosts the World Championships every year.
The other Charentais market towns of Matha and Aulnay are also only 10 mins drive away, both boast rich historic architecture, shops, restaurants, markets etc.
The sandy beaches of the Atlantic coast are within an hours drive, the closest being Fouras at around 45minutes. A bit further up to the surf beaches of the cote Sauvage. The sandy beaches at Royan, St Georges de Didonne and Meschers are an hour's drive.
25 mins drive to Romanesque Saintes on the river Charente, great shops in the pedestrian centre, a new indoor/outdoor aquatic swimming centre, visit the amphitheatre or relax in a street side cafe. There is an 18 hole golf course.
In opposite directions, both around 40 minutes drive away, are the famous towns of Cognac and historic Rochefort. Visit the Cognac distilleries and the nautical buildings at Rochefort, before going on to the beach at Fouras. Beautiful La Rochelle and the chic Ile de Re are just over an hour's drive, as is Ile de Oleron.
Angouleme on the river Charente, has a pleasure lake, swimming, boats etc and a museum dedicated to the art of cartoons. A bit further afield are Poitiers and Futuroscope, a futuristic adventure park, A day trip can be made to Puy de Fou with actors acting out scenes for history, including Roman gladiators, Vikings and Musketeers.
There is so much to do and see in this region for SW France, if you want to do anything except relax in the large garden and have a dip in the pool.

Friday changeover so make the most of off peak travel and less crowded roads during the summer by not travelling on a Saturday.
