My name is Nathalie, I’m married, I’m 45 years old and I have 2 children, Kathleen my daughter was born in 1990 and my son Antoine in 1995. I was born in France but I am from Portugal. I’m storekeeper, I sell cheese in the markets of Paris and Nogent-sur-Marne. My husband is Manuel and has an automobile repair garage in Paris area and next year he will be 50 years old!
Mrs Ferreira purchased this house in 2008
I have always loved France and its regions and as we both have our own business, long holidays far away were impossible. We immediately loved Ile d’Oléron, it is a sunny, natural and authentic island with a very typical stone town centre ideal for bike rides as the island is flat and very quiet. You must go to the beach by bike! The island is much visited in summer but we are well located, close to Leclerc, the market and the town centre. The crowds have never been a problem for us but the island during the low season is relaxing, many restaurants are open and the storekeepers are more relaxed. Summer holiday with friends in my house are synonymous with bar, pool and barbecue! We didn’t even need to go out, but we had to see the beach! Eat an ice cream in La Cotinière and walk until the lighthouse of Chassiron or take the small train to Saint-Trojan and the Fort Boyard or go see the firework in Château d’Oléron. There are so many thing to see. We spent good times with friends or in family. I have 4 sisters and 9 nephews and nieces so we needed a big house. But 3 years ago I lost my brother-in-law in a motorcycle accident. He was from Ile de Ré and he didn’t miss any holiday or week-end, a great but painful memory. He used to sleep in the independent bedroom with my sister. He didn’t even see the new barbecue, however he had taken the necessary actions. We must try to live with that so for now I prefer renting my house instead of leaving it empty and dull. I want to bring it back to life, hear people laughing when you push them in the water with their clothes on or not being able to climb the stairs because they drank too much champagne or listen to music. Have fun at the bar just like we used to do with my brother-in-law who was a great barman.
You know everything now!
There are good oysters, seafood and fresh fish.
I didn’t build this house to rent it, you will realise it! There is all the necessary comfort to feel good: fitted coffee machine, automatically ground coffee grains, dish heater, double sink in the central island in the kitchen and in the working surface under the window and top of the range televisions with home cinema. In my bedroom, I installed very comfortable sofas to watch a great Blu-Ray movie without being disturbed. My garden with pool is great, we were the second one to buy an accommodation in this housing estate. We first chose the biggest, calmest, more discreet and better exposed land that is sunny as well as the pool. Thanks to the pergola and the summer kitchen, there is no wind anymore. The sauna has been really useful by night and as the pool is heated, we directly went to the sauna (the children only to dry themselves). I only tried my bed and it is very comfortable but my friends and family say that the other beds are very comfortable too. The beds are important for me because during the holiday, you remain in it longer. I decided to install an outdoor toilet because when the children went in the pool, they had an urgent desire to go to the toilet so they walked with their wet feet on the tiles and I was very scared. Don’t forget the books to make cocktails and the bar in the summer kitchen with the same refrigerator as in the bars. Actually it is an outdoor bar, you open the shutter and the clients are waiting at the counter sitting on stools. All my friends told me that they had the impression of being in a holiday club. Bring your own CD player to listen to music outside, we also have a home cinema.
Good addresses to have a meal or simply a drink
La Fleur de Thym in Saint-Denis: great mussels
Le Grain de Sable in l’Ile d’Oléron: upon booking by phone call
Le Saint-Pierre in Saint-Pierre: upon booking by phone call
La Criée in Saint-Trojan
L’Ecailler in La Cotinière: facing the port
Les Jardins d’Alienor in Le Château d’Oléron: upon booking, intimate atmosphere in a relaxing setting, refined cuisine with fish, budget of € 15-30 and menu for € 26-40.
Le Mille Pattes in Saint-Pierre: good pizzas baked in wood oven and handmade pastas, call to book, especially during the high season, very fast service.
Les best sweet or salty crepes of the island are in L’Ecluse in La Brée-les-Bains
If you want pizzas to take away, don’t miss the lorry on the parking of Mobiclub on the national road in Saint-Pierre, 3 minutes by car: I never ate better pizzas and the pizzaiolo is really nice!
If you love beautiful gardens, visit the Jardins de la Boire in Saint-Pierre. The lighthouse of Chassiron is wonderful on the tip of the island with unobstructed and breathtaking views of the ocean!
For further information, I advise you to go at the tourist office of Saint-Denis. The receptionists are charming and their advices more useful to visit Oléron.
If you go out of the island, I advise you to taste the Gillardeau de Lion oysters that are the best for me and then go to Pont-l’Abbé-d’Arnoult in L’Eloise restaurant. I recommend it.
