Overview

Overview

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday apartment in Amsterdam Old Centre

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 2

This welcoming holiday apartment is situated in an historic converted warehouse overlooking a typical Amsterdam canal. The development is extremely peaceful and only a short walking distance to Central station with very good access to Metro stations (Nieuwmarkt and Waterloo Plein), tram and bus services.

The apartment is on the same street as the world famous Gassan Diamond. The closest attractions include, Opera House, Rembrandt House, Hermitage Museum, Jewish/Portuguese Synagogue, Dam Square, NEMO and the Maritime museum. There is a diverse selection of shops, cafes, restaurants and galleries nearby to explore.

As you enter the historic warehouse building you will be surprised at the modern communal courtyard gardens within. The development also benefits from a modern entrance security system and an elevator to help you get to/from the 3rd floor apartment with your luggage or shopping. The apartment has a comfortable and modern interior with delightful views over the canal.

If you want all of the convenience of a great central location in Amsterdam and demand a safe, comfortable and peaceful place to stay, then this apartment is for you.

Many Amsterdam houses and flats have steep staircases to gain access. This apartment has a lift which negates the need to climb stairs.

Many visitors to the city choose to hire bicycles during their stay. One of the main cycle hire companies is only a short walk from the apartment. You can also park your bike(s) off the street in the residents parking area. This can only be reached by residents and the community is gated.

We are happy to provide specific advice for your visit to make the most of your stay. This might include recommending a local Thai restaurant or give you ideas of places to visit outside the city should you choose.

Other rental options may be available for those staying over 1 week and we would be happy to negotiate a discount on our advertised rates.

IMPORTANT CONTACT INFORMATION

First of all, let me introduce myself - my name is Marcos Moura Vieira and I own this property which was my home in Amsterdam for a number of years. The apartment is now offered as a cosy holiday let and is ideal for visitors because of the Central location.

If calling from a non Netherlands registered telephone please dial: +31 6250 91235.

Perfect stay in Amsterdam

  • 5 out of 5
We were met at the accommodation by the manager who was very welcoming and helpful. There were 20 red roses, chocolates, other nibbles and several bottles of wine waiting for us in the apartment on our arrival. The apartment had everything we needed. It was clean, very well appointed and quiet. It was central to the everything we wanted to go to and within easy walking distance of the central railway station. We would strongly recommend this to anyone planning to stay in Amsterdam for short or long stays.

Owner's Response: Hello Mary,

It has been a few months since you stayed with us and I’m grateful that you returned to the website to write a review. Thank you!

We aim to ensure our guests settle into the apartment as quick as possible and ‘feel a home’. The flowers, nibbles, tea + coffee and wine allow you to put your feet up and have a drink without having to pop out to the local supermarket. As a frequent traveller myself, I know how much I appreciate these small touches. (The extra wine was possibly gifted by a previous guest). The key feature to your ‘welcome’ is Peter himself. Peter enjoys meeting all of our guests and will always ensure a warm welcome. Furthermore, he is always a phone call/email away if you require further information or assistance (as am I).

You kindly commented on the central location of the apartment. Indeed, the apartment is a short walk from Central Station and most of the major tourist attractions can be reached by foot.

Thank you for your strong recommendation to our future guests.
We very much hope that we will see you, your friends or your family in Amsterdam in the future.

It’s nearly November so let me take this opportunity to send you my warmest wishes for the festive period and wish you a peaceful 2015.

Best regards,

Marcos

Quiet, convenient and well-equipped

  • 5 out of 5
At first I was a little surprised by the size of the apartment--the ceiling a little lower than expected, photos made it look larger, but it was perfectly comfortable, good light from the windows. It's very well-equipped, everything works well, clean! The bed is good, often a problem with vacation rentals. Not here. Lovely petite balcony to sit out on and enjoy the boats going by on the canal. We knew the location was good, and rightly figured that a place on a canal with no street in front would be quiet. Marcos was very on top of communication and instructions, and even though his assistant Peter wasn't available to meet us, his colleague was there for us. Greeted with goodies, coffee makings and even milk, much appreciated by the jet-lagged traveler. And I like the artwork!

Supermarket close, good coffee and tea store just down the street, Simon Levert. Mac Bike rental and health food store on Waterlooplein, as well as a Coffee Company outlet, better than Starbucks. Puccini also nearby, nice. Watch out for their bonbon shop, wow. Rent a bike and ride out the Amstel to Oudekerk on Amstel, have lunch at the bakery.

We went to both Amsterdam and Paris, and while Paris is grand, we liked our experience in Amsterdam much more. This apartment was part of that good experience.

Owner's Response: Hello Susan,

Thank you so much for your very detailed and honest review.
It’s so good to hear that you enjoyed your stay and that you appreciated the amenities of the apartment. The apartment location is ideal for those you want to stay in Central Amsterdam but without the street noise.

The small balcony off the lounge is ideal for relaxing with a drink while watching the boats – no cars and no pedestrians. This was one of my own favourite pastimes. The picture on the website is a little old and we now have a small table and 2 chairs which have replaced the bench!

I know that Peter wasn’t able to greet you on arrival although I hope that you were made to feel at home. Many rental properties have very strict rules about arrival and departure times. I am proud to say that we try our absolute hardest to be flexible to our guests unique travel arrangements and will make every effort to ensure that you don’t have to resort to leaving your bags in ‘Left Luggage’ at the Station or wait on the streets for hours at the time.

The apartment is only one bedroom and, like most other Warehouse conversions in the Centre, has limited space. It is for this reason that we now prefer to rent to a maximum of 2 guests. Some City Centre apartments advertise as 1 bedroom when they do not have a separate bedroom. The website photos are not intended to give the impression of a vast open space. The ceiling height is low in the main hallway although opens up somewhat in the lounge and bedroom with the original exposed beams. However, it is definitely not a high ceiling. I really hope that you found the space sufficient for your stay!!

I am pleased that you appreciated the artwork. The paintings in the lounge are, obviously, Brazilian and provide a welcome burst of colour.

Thank you also for mentioning how close the apartment is to the shops, cafes and supermarkets of Waterlooplein. ‘Puccini’ is very special indeed and is a must visit shop for those who like specialty chocolates.

I also hope future guests take note of your cycling suggestions. There are some delightful destinations both in and out of the City which can be reached by bike. The good news is that the apartment is situated inside a gated complex and there is a secure off street bike storage area for your convenience.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a detailed review and for your 5 star rating.

Best regards,

Marcos

Perfect. Top notch in every way.

  • 5 out of 5
The apartment is very well equipped. It overlooks a canal so is very quiet and only a short walk to the metro or the tram. Peter, who looks after the place is incredibly obliging and friendly and provides welcoming champagne, beer, cheese nuts, juice, and nuts. The wifi is fast and satellite TV has about a million channels. We will definitely stay there again when we next visit Amsterdam.

Owner's Response: Hello Peter,

It is ever so satisfying to read the comments of another happy guest. We trust you got back home safely to South Africa!

We’re so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your time staying at our apartment and that it provided a perfect base from which you could explore.

You specifically make mention to Peter (our Key Manager) – I know that he loves meeting our guests from all every continent and will always make the time to answer questions to ensure you feel at home fast. He (and I) are always contactable should you require any further advice during your stay. I’m also pleased you liked your small ‘welcome pack’ although this can and does vary from time-to-time.

The Wifi is complimentary and we know that our guests find this incredibly useful either for their smart phones and/or laptops. The television channel selection (although not millions) is considerable and includes many English language channels (American/UK (including BBC)) and is always useful if you’re feeling a little tired or the weather is not so nice.

We hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back and our warm welcome will always extend to any of your friends or family.

Thanks again for your great review and the 5 stars.

Great apartment for a visit to Amsterdam

  • 5 out of 5
We really enjoyed our stay in Amsterdam and this apartment is just perfect as a base to explore the city. The apartment has everything you need for a comfortable stay. It is quiet yet close to shops and interesting sights. We were very impressed with all the information we received from Marcos and Peter. It was all most helpful and made you feel very secure with both the booking and your arrival. We were made to feel very welcome. The hospitality is just first class. Thank you Marcos and Peter.

Owner's Response: Hello Jill & Steve,

Thank you both so much for your lovely review and for the 5 star rating. We are pleased that you found the apartment a perfect base for your trip to Amsterdam.

We try hard to make the booking experience a little more personal than what you might experience through a Holiday Let company. Therefore, you will only ever deal with Eric or me during the booking stage and with Peter during your stay. Peter was a little unwell on the day of your arrival although I know that Maria provided a warm welcome while Peter ensured that he was always on hand if you needed any help/advice during your stay. The good news is that Peter is now much better and I have passed on your well wishes.

We also try to ensure that our guests receive additional information regarding local services/amenities. I have made a few of my own restaurant recommendations and also included those of guests. The local restaurants are fabulous and they don’t necessarily cater for the tourist market. We are always appreciative when guests want us to pass on their ‘dining out discoveries’ to future guests – any suggestions Jill/Steve??

Thanks again for choosing our apartment and for your lovely review.

Best regards,
Marcos

A wonderful apartment for a break in Amsterdam.

  • 5 out of 5
Close enough to the centre to have everything within easy reach, but very peaceful. Greeted by Marcos, the owner, on arrival and a very generous welcome pack awaited us. Everything from the initial enquiry to departure was faultless. Would highly recommend staying here and would certainly not hesitate a return visit myself.

Owner's Response: Hello Bruno & Stephanie,

It was an absolute pleasure to meet you both when you arrived at the apartment in August. I must confess that our guests would normally meet Peter on arrival and he is much better rehearsed on ensuring a warm welcome to our guests. Nevertheless, I hope I did enough to ensure that you felt at home fast!

Thanks for taking the time to write a review and for stating the key features of our apartment. Firstly, the location – the apartment is centrally located within easy walking distance to Central railway station and most key attractions. Despite being central, the apartment is also very secure/private and there is no noise from passing pedestrians/traffic. The canal view from the lounge is quite delightful.

Secondly, we try very hard to deal with our guests in a ‘personal way’ and respond to emails quickly – thank you for endorsing this.

Thank you so much for the five stars and your recommendation. We would love to see you again in the future.

Best regards,

Marcos

Simply amazing

  • 5 out of 5
All reviews can really be trusted. The apartment is superb, close to all attractions in Amsterdam and so well equipped that it's just a dream come true. The rental process is very efficient and the attentions by the key manager were just unbelievable, including the welcome pack and all the indications provided. Reality is even better than the pictures. I would undoubtedly recommend it to everyone wishing to spend some time in Ámsterdam without the inconveniences of a similarly priced hotel room. No less than 5 stars, for sure. Guys, keep up the good work!

Owner's Response: Hello Carlos & Isabel,

Thank you so much for your fabulous review and 5 stars. Peter and I are very happy to hear that you enjoyed your time in Amsterdam and that our Apartment did not disappoint.

Our guest reviews are incredibly important to us and we take great pride in that so many have taken the time to share their experiences on the website. We know that our potential guests are interested to hear the experiences of previous guests to help guide them when choosing a holiday rental.

Our aim is simply to provide good value combined with an honest and friendly service – I’m pleased that you also found this to be the case.
The location of the apartment is Central and within walking distance of most of the City attractions and this too has been a strong influencing factor for our guests. Our key selling point is, of course, Peter. He always enjoys meeting all of guests and taking the time to help them settle and answer any questions on arrival and/or during their stay. We also try hard to be as flexible as we can with guest arrival times as we would rather our guests didn’t have to walk the streets with luggage unnecessarily. In your case, the late arrival of your train from Brussels did demonstrate our flexible approach.

I know that you’re both back home safely in Seville. Thank you for the offer of a beer and a ‘tour guide’ should we visit. We may well take you up on this offer. Thank you for your email with a few suggestions which we have already actioned.

Thanks again for your review and the strong recommendation.

Best regards,

Marcos

Welcome to the 'old side' (Oude Zidje) of Amsterdam in the heart of the city centre. This welcoming holiday apartment is situated in an historic converted warehouse overlooking a typical Amsterdam canal. The development is extremely peaceful and only a short walking distance to Central station with very good access to Metro stations (NieuwMarkt and Waterloo Plein), tram and bus services. However, with such a central location it is unlikely you will need transportation unless you wish to explore further afield.

The apartment is on the same street as the world famous Gassan Diamond factory/museum. The closest attractions include, Opera House (Muziektheater), Rembrandt House/square, Hermitage Museum, Jewish/Portuguese Synagogue, Amsterdam Historic Museum, NEMO and the Maritime museum. There is a diverse selection of shops, cafes, restaurants and galleries nearby to explore.

You can easily reach all of the most famous attractions in Amsterdam: Museum Quarter (Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk Museum), Dam Square, Amsterdam Zoo, Anne-Frank house, Royal Palace, Oude Kerk,

As you enter the historic warehouse building you will be surprised at the modern communal courtyard gardens within. At the canal side of the development you can take full advantage of a private picnic/seating area in quiet surroundings and watch the boats pass by. The development also benefits from a modern entrance security system and an elevator to help you get to/from the 3rd floor apartment with your luggage or shopping. Furthermore, if you do decide to hire bikes during your stay you can find secure bicycle parking within the development.

The apartment has a comfortable and modern interior with delightful views over the canal.

Whether this is your first visit to the city or you're a frequent visitor, we trust you will have a pleasant and memorable stay in Amsterdam. If you would like specific advice on local restaurants or activities to suit your specific needs, then we would be more than happy to help in anyway we can.
