Overview

Photos and Description of this 7 bedroom holiday home in Marsh Baldon - Baldon House

Baldon House is the centre portion of a beautiful 18th Century Manor house

Baldon House is the centre portion of a beautiful 18th Century Manor house set on the edge of the popular village of Marsh Baldon, six miles south of the historic university city of Oxford, The house is full of character and provides a wonderful holiday for the whole family. Surrounded by beautiful countryside full of walks and cosy pubs, it is the perfect getaway for peace and quiet. The seven bedroom house, blending both grandeur and charm, has many period features such as high ceilings, marble fireplaces and parque floors. There are 7 bedrooms in total: a luxurious Georgian master suite enjoying views across the countryside, with super King bed, large dressing room, stunning new bathroom with role top bath; another luxurious twin Georgian bedroom enjoying the same spectacular view with en-suite bathroom, walk in closet; a twin/super King en suite bedroom with walk in closet, enjoying views over the front courtyard, and church spire, a further two further double bedrooms and two single bedrooms, three further bathrooms and a cloak room. On the ground floor is a large, open-plan kitchen (stocked with everything you need including a nespresso machine so you can enjoy a cappuccino while on holiday), with breakfast room, a well-appointed Georgian living room, and a beautiful historic panelled dining room seating 16. Year-round, the house offers a wonderful combination of activities and relaxation. Eat al fresco on the South Lawn in the summer sun, hit golf balls on the South lawn, enjoy flowers and vegetables fresh from the Walled Garden or have a go at croquet. In the autumn, warm yourself by the Aga after a brisk walk through the woods or a row on the lake. Curl up with a good book by the fire in the winter and in the spring, watch the lambs in the fields or try your hand at shearing! Whatever your age or energy level, there is something for everyone.

Baldon House is set in 60 acres of beautiful, unspoiled grounds. There are 20 acres of woodland, full of wild life and a series of lakes with great carp fishing and a mediaeval bridge marking the ancient road from London to Oxford. There are several fields put to pasture where Aberdeen Angus cattle graze alongside polo ponies and horses. Nearer to the house there is a historic stable yard and several barns and a working walled kitchen garden still being gardened in the traditional ways. Adjacent to the Barns is a tennis court and various lawns surround the house.

Children will love the array of animals at Baldon House: chickens, sheep, horses, cows - even Peregrine the Peacock! Collect fresh eggs in the morning, or feed the sheep in the evening. Lambing and shearing happen in the Spring. Pony rides are available by special arrangement.

Marsh Baldon is a picturesque country village with a pub, school, church and even cricket on the village green! There are countless walks to nearby villages and destination pubs, such as the renowned gastro pub The Mole in Toot Baldon, or The Crazy Bear in Stadhampton. The Oxford University Arboretum neighbours the Baldon Estate.

About Emma Timms

This is our family home where my siblings and I grew up. My parents now spend most of their time in the US which is why we decided to start renting. I live in a cottage on the estate with my family and will be on hand to answer any questions during your stay. We hope you and your family have a wonderful time and enjoy the house as much as we have done!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had the best time in this house. Everything was wonderful. The hospitality that we received was above and beyond. The fresh produce and jams on arrive were a special treat! We were with a big group (in laws and sister in law and nephew). Plenty of rooom in this huge house. All the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The master suite is stunning. The kids had a blast making friends with the neighbors, playing fetch with the dog, petting the horses, looking for eggs in the chicken coop, and calling to the pigs. We didn't want to leave! Great location to visit downtown Oxford and Windsor Castle. The local pubs serve wonderful food, but we also enjoyed cooking in the up to date kitchen. The use of the families Wellies came in handy (next time we will bring our own). We loved every minute here and hope to come back some day!! Thank you for everything!!!

Absolutely Fabulous

  • 5 out of 5
We stayed at Baldon House for a week at the end of June, 10 persons in our party. The house lived up to it's description and photos on the website. Beautifully decorated, fabulous kitchen, great outdoor areas, very comfortable beds. There's a good pub with excellent cuisine within a 2 minute walk, Oxford is 5-10 minutes by car. The owners and staff are wonderful people and very professional. Staying at Baldon House turned a great trip into an absolutely unforgettable experience!

My wife and I were amazed at the beauty of the property, friendliness of the staff, quality customer service, and comfort of Baldon House. It was perfectly located - a short drive to the heart of Oxford. This is a special place, and we look forward to our next visit to this wonderful home!

Relaxing in splendour for a long week end

  • 5 out of 5
We had a family re-union over a 4 day period, staying at this beautiful residence in the country. Its spacious accommodation enabled each guest to enjoy their privacy with two sitting rooms to choose from. One with chairs and TV and the other large drawing room with its wonderful fire and views onto the lawn and ha ha beyond.
The owner's were extremely helpful in providing information to enable us to have a chef in to cook a meal on one of the evenings which was served in the beautiful panelled dining room.
During the day we enjoyed walking in and around Dorchester and visiting the historical city of Oxford.
If you are looking for a break in a splendid English Manor House then I would thoroughly recommend Baldon House.
