The cottage at Hamilton Lodge is a pretty 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom cottage which was fully modernised in 2010. If you are looking for something comfortable but with a true Caribbean feel you have come to the right place. It is built in the traditional West Indian style with a hip roof and long terrace but with a fully modernised bathroom and kitchen. The cottage is light and breezy with fully opening shuttered windows and overhead ceiling fans.
The private terrace is 30 feet long with a sofa and hammocks for you to relax and enjoy the laid back lifestyle of the West Indies. The garden surrounding the cottage is planted with mature palms and mango trees. Often monkeys are seen playing in the garden. The kitchen in the cottage has a stove, a fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster and coffee machine. The kitchen table sits four people comfortably. The cottage has wi-fi access and a washing machine. The bathroom has a huge travertine waterfall shower, loo and wash basin.
We loved staying at the cottage, Hamilton Lodge. The four poster was very comfortable and the place was immaculate when we arrived. The host family couldn't do enough for us, ensuring that our stay was as enjoyable as possible.
The location was perfect. We were not far from Charlestown and the beaches. Our favourite beach was Pinneys, we spent many afternoons relaxing here, enjoyng the local beach bars where a bite to eat was also an option.
There are many beautiful tracks to follow if you enjoy walking; you will see some of Nevis' tropical wildlife.
Being a small island, it's many attractions are always close by. Golden Rock stands out as the most beautiful spot in our opinion, however, if you are searching for a mini adventure, the ferry over to St Kitts from Charlestown is great fun. It also means you get some time to see the Capital of Nevis and the array of shops they have there.
Events are occasional but great fun. If you are able to be in Nevis during any of their events make sure you try and attend some of them. Horse racing was an extremely unique experience, a huge number of the locals attend; a great time to soak in their culture.
Indian Summer was our absolute favourite restaurant but there are so many wonderful restaurants to choose from dotted right across the island. We were always welcomed in to the local bars however, sunsets on the veranda with a beer topped the whole vacation. Nothing was more perfect.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed celebrating our 6th anniversary on Nevis in late July 2014. We’ve been to the Spanish and US Virgin Islands before - Nevis was a uniquely different experience and one we absolutely loved! When I first saw the listing for this cottage, I thought it must be too good to be true. The amenities, location, and look - seemed like it would be perfect! Upon arrival, we realized it truly was! The cottage is in a convenient location gated in and just adjacent to the “big house”. The positioning of the doors and building, certainly give you a feeling of privacy and seclusion that promoted the rest and relaxation we so desperately craved. Roma, who attended to every need we had, was incredibly helpful and supportive. Any of the minor issues (more toilet paper, dish soap, loose pipe under sink, etc.) that arose, she made sure she gave prompt and thorough attention. Even one night after nine pm - when cooking an elaborate meal with multiple appliances and I tripped a breaker, she dealt with it in time to save the dinner! The beds were comfy, the kitchen quite adequate (loved the french press!), and the monkeys we would see in the morning right outside our back door - one of the highlights of our trip! This was one of my most favorite trips ever and our stay in this cottage certainly made it that way. I will be forever grateful to Izzie and Roma for renting to us and making our stay so enjoyable. I hope others get to visit this lovely island and experience the hospitality we so very much enjoyed!
Hamilton is just above Charlestown, the pretty and beautifully preserved capital of Nevis. It is a five minute drive to Pinney's Beach and less than 5 minutes to the Four Seasons Resort. Hamilton is a quiet residential area close enough to Charlestown to be able to get in and out easily without being in the centre of town. The area boasts wonderful sea views and sunsets. The Four Seasons golf course is within a mile of the property. 10 minutes in one direction gets you to Oualie Beach, which is good for snorkelling and sunbathing, whilst 10 minutes in the other direction takes you towards the mountain to all the old plantation hotels such as Montpellier, The Hermitage and a little further on, Golden Rock. Up the hill from the house you climb straight into the former Hamilton Plantation, with ruins of the old sugar mill that are still visible, although overgrown by the ever encroaching rain forest.
