On winter nights, cosy down with your hosts’ collection of books, or perhaps have a singalong around the piano. In the summer, head up to the roof terrace and salute the stars. With a stunning collection of art, and antique furniture at every turn, here’s a home to cherish.

One is a session musician, who’s played all over the world, and nurtures a love of Indian food. The other is an artist who loves collecting his friends’ works.

Little charmer

Yes, Cosway Street is sweetly petite. But this home has character that larger flats can only dream of. The open plan living space has a comfortable, velvet-clad sofa, a ravishingly pretty chaise longue, and, of course, the piano.

Art is everywhere, and, when you’re done admiring the choc-a-bloc walls, head to the hall. The bathroom’s small but beautiful, the bedroom boasts a writing desk, Venetian glass, and some pull-down stairs to – the roof terrace! Inspired by Morocco’s riads, this gorgeous open-air den holds a host of herbs, a gas-fired bbq and seating for enough guests to ensure that your balmy summer night goes on very late indeed.

Home Truths The stairs up to the apartment are fairly steep and in one place there is no banister. The folding stairs up to the roof terrace are even steeper... but what awaits you at the summit is worth the climb. With their love of music, art, literature and food, your hosts have no requirement for a TV and so you will not find one in this home. The bedroom faces the street, so if windows are kept open, it can be a bit noisy.
