In the spotlight

When it comes to old-school glamour, there’s really nothing quite like Covent Garden. This is where boys and girls come to stay out late in their party clothes, to shop and eat and dance, to dine in tiny cafes, holding hands in the flickering candlelight. It’s where opera singers dash for sandwiches between acts, where rapturous applause comes drifting from theatres up into the night air. And in the midst of all this sits Broad Court. Elegant, neat and incredibly quiet, this is a home for those who enjoy a bit of pizazz – but prefer to leave drama behind at the front door.

Your hostess has lived in Hong Kong and New York, but she likes London best of all. She’s currently taking a break from work to study for a PhD, and when she’s not burning the midnight oil at her desk, she’s out on the town, enjoying everything the city has to offer.

Curtain up

Parquet floors, arts and crafts fireplaces and sash windows give this home a lovely sense of history, you’ll have no doubt that you’re staying in a proper London apartment. The main living space is open plan, with a sleek wooden kitchen, a pair of comfy leather sofas, and French doors. The patio here is the hidden treasure though- amazingly spacious, and almost unheard of in this part of town. Throw the doors open to enjoy the breeze, or take your drink outside on balmy summer evenings.

If you’ve work to do, there's a handy desk in the study. But the also sofa transforms into a double bed, and you’ll find shelves loaded with interesting books. With its black and white chequered floor and freestanding tub, the bathroom is really rather splendid, and chilly toes will particularly appreciate the underfloor heating. Meanwhile, the master bedroom is utterly simple, with an iron-framed bed, and a pretty fireplace topped with restful Indonesian art.

Where to begin? Whether it’s sightseeing, nightlife or shopping, you’re right in the heart of the best that London has to offer. You’ve the National Gallery, the West End’s theatres, the bars of Seven Dials, Soho and the nightlife of Leicester Square, the British Museum and the Thames, all just a short walk away.

Home Truths The entrance to the building is on a pedestrainised street- this means that for a central location it's amazingly quiet, but cars need to drop at the end of the lane- a 30 second walk. The computer shown in the pictures of the study will not be available for guest stays. There is a full shower head on the ceiling above the bath, but it is not visible in the photos.
