Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday apartment in Hackney - Butler House
Exposed brickwork & industrial aesthetic keep this home in touch with its roots
If you’re hunting down the capital’s movers and shakers, then start in Shoreditch – when it comes to buzz, this part of town is a veritable hive. Pop-up restaurants and late night bars mix with contemporary galleries – think the Lower East Side meets Cool Britannia. And here’s a home that’s the very embodiment of that attitude. A huge open plan space showcases top European design, while large original windows keep the vibe breezy and bright. Contemporary, it may be, but the exposed brickwork and industrial aesthetic keep this home very much in touch with its roots – much like Shoreditch itself.
Your host works in the city, while your hostess runs a design consultancy business. Indeed, if there’s anything that takes your fancy at Butler House, check out her website, she may well be able to source you a souvenir. When they’re not in town, they can be found in their second home in Wiltshire with their two young children.
The main living area of this home is deceptively simple, look past the high ceilings and expanse of white floorboards and you’ll find an incredible attention to detail. A modern coffee table sits in front of a soft grey couch, and when you’re not admiring your hosts’ canvases, you’ll be at the handy desk, perhaps, or enraptured by the 3D TV. The kitchen is robust, with butchers’ tiles and a gorgeous collection of copper saucepans, while the dining table seats four in funky white chairs.
The master bedroom makes use of reclaimed furniture to wonderful effect, look out for the bulbous green light and architectural bedside tables. There are two bathrooms, the family bathroom, with a roll topped tub and illuminated mirror, and the ensuite shower room, both brand new and filled with White Company toiletries.
See and be seen
Take a dip in the rooftop pool of Shoreditch House, or spot the next Banksy at the White Cube gallery. Then, dine at Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen, followed by dancing at one of your many nearby nightspots. You’re a walk from the cutting edge clobber of Spitalfields Market and the serious suits in the City, and if you want to get into town, jump on a bus or take the tube. The journey from Old Street to Oxford Circus is around fifteen minutes.
