Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday villa in Kalives - Villa Amvrosia
Villa Amvrosia, Armeni, with swimming pool
Villa Amvrosia is a ‘boutique’ style Villa with an up to date finish more in keeping with the sophisticated Cote d’Azur than a Villa on the edge of a small, albeit charming, village in Western Crete and it is this very incongruity which makes it, for us at Freelance, totally irresistible.
The hillside accommodation : ranges over 3 floors with a *heated Jacuzzi pool on the lower level making an extravagant addition to the beautifully tiled L shaped swimming pool set into a deck at tree top level; which rather like the ‘house that Jack built’ is also at ground floor level of the Villa.
Beautifully furnished, the open plan living area, on the raised first floor, warmed out of season by an inset glass fronted fire, leads onto a large covered balcony with views of the pool and the dramatic White Mountains where the village of Stilos sits picturesquely on the lower slopes. The kitchen is equipped, as befits a Villa of this quality, with large fridge freezer, dishwasher, coffee maker and microwave and has a stable door to a small balcony that catches the morning sun. There is also a guest WC at this level.
Stairs lead down to the: Stairs lead down to the lower ground floor and the aforementioned jacuzzi pool where a door and poolside picture windows opening to a little shady copse of holme oak. Also at this level is the single bedroom with a generously wide single bed and a shower room with hydro massage shower.
At the top of the Villa, the master double bedroom has a good run of wardrobes, a smart en-suite shower room and French doors to a covered balcony. A twin bedroom also has French doors to its own balcony and both bedrooms share a bathroom with a curved corner bath.
At the entrance to the delightful: At the entrance to the delightful landscaped gardens, chiselled out of the stony Cretan hillside, a pretty aviary holds a pair of peacocks, who display their colours to a host of other small birds and along a stone path and past the entrance to the lower house level, a small copse makes a shady setting for a benched ‘picnic area’. Alongside the picnic area, a spacious covered outside kitchen/dining area has been constructed, with a barbecue, wood oven, fridge, and sink with running water.
Steps from here lead up to the pool deck where the beautifully tiled L shaped pool is just a few further steps from the door into the living area.
* The indoor pool is heated during the cooler months only.

Another very happy visit to Crete and the village of Armeni. We had just 6 days free over the Jubilee weekend and half term holiday and decided to escape London and the bad weather and head back to Crete to find out whether we could repeat the fantastic experience we had in the neighbouring Villa Galania four years ago. I am very glad to say that we were not disappointed. We love the sleepy village and the fantastic views across the valley to the mountains and the hill top ruins of Aptera. Armeni is very pretty - a big church that chimes out the hours, the freshwater springs and stream, the trees around the central square. The new bakery, the wonderful delicatessen, small supermarket and taverna mean that you don't actually have to travel anywhere to eat very well indeed and in fact we found the provisions in Armeni, just a 10 minute walk from the villa, better than in the larger local town of Kalives although there is more choice of eating out and the possibility of buying a newspaper and souvenirs there if you want to. We didn't feel the need to leave the very beautiful villa more than once or twice - we were there to recuperate and for one of our daughter's to revise without distractions of any kind, especially the internet! We quickly slipped into reading, swimming, relaxing - sleeping so well with the Cretan breeze coming through the windows and the sounds of the goat bells and the occasional call of the peacock from the aviary. The moon was full while we were there and so we had twice the landscape for our money - one sunlit and green during the day and the other silver and sparkling at night. The villa is very well equipped - we had everything we needed and more - lots of space and different places to sit and lounge, each with its own view. We really appreciated the details such as the fly screens at every window and the way in which the villa has been placed so that you can neither disturb or be disturbed by the villa next door. The jacuzzi was a bonus - very cool on the hottest days and yet another way of relaxing! We really like the coastal drive out of Kalives and towards Georgioupolis and managed to find the idyllic little cove that we visited last holiday where you can swim in a warm, crystal clear sea and watch the tropical looking fish swimming below. We have found a little bit of paradise that we love, As you can tell, we are completely smitten! John, Jo, Lily and
