Lourdas, Kefalonia
It’s easy to see why this village, squeezed in amongst the pine trees on the foothills of Mount Aenos and overlooking a beautiful sandy beach has grown of recent years into a select holiday resort. A handful of tavernas offer traditional Greek hospitality and with a few mini markets and small tourist shops, the scene is set for a relaxed holiday.
The beach below the village, backed by allotments growing a profusion of fruits and vegetables, is long with shallow shelving sand making it ideal for families with small children. Conveniently on the beach a few tavernas serve snacks and drinks throughout the day and make a romantic venue for evening meals with, usually, locally caught fish on the menu served with vegetables from their own allotments.
Along the coast either side of Lourdas itself are several smaller bays and coves, some quite undeveloped with no facilities and ideal for getting away from it all.
