In Bologna, a lovely apartment in the heart of the historic city center, and a short walk from the iconic Two Towers. You will experience a reality unknown to tourists in one of the most ancient and beautiful neighbourhoods of Bologna, in a building from the 17th century, where the apartment overlooks an ancient courtyard full of plants and greenery. The silence and peace are absolute as if in the countryside. Yet its central location allows you to reach the most exquisite Bologna has to offer in just a few minutes: CULTURE as expessed with extraordinary works of art and architecture, FOOD as can be admired in the wonderful shops and tasted in the many trattorias, and of course the quintessence of Italian FASHION available in the boutiques or outlets. The charming apartment shows the hand of the owner, with its attention to detail. The terrace offers the the ideal setting for breakfast or a candlelight dinner. Furthermore. a large kitchen, modern and functional, well equipped for cooking, a diningroom and cozy bedroom for 2 (bed = 140 cm x 200 cm - third bed for a child) a bathroom with the shower. The beautiful view from the terrace of the Bolognese roofs and the many churches will furthermore make your stay a memorable one.
We rented this property to use as a base for our travels in Europe. It was a great rental: bedroom, kitchen, appliances that worked, plenty of hot water and heat ( Bologna was cold in February), and an ideal location, great neighborhood, a short walk from the due tori in the center. Marina was a gracious and helpful host; having her in the apartment next door was perfect. She arranged for a 4:30 am taxi for our departure, and was even awake to check to see if we had forgotten anything (we had). Short bus ride to train station - day trips to Venice, Ravenna,
Ferrara and Dozza were easy. Of course Bologna is a great (delicious) city to get to know. I think the apartment would be too small for 3 people (there were 2 of us), but other than that, it gets a five star rating.
All the previous reviews are sparkling and they are right on.
This is my fourth apartment with Home Away in Bologna and my wife and i fell in love with it.
Maria is a wonderful person and vey helpful.
Fall is a great time. There is the jazz and chocolate festivals, ballet, opera and symphonies and all a short walk
The Duse Theatro is around the corner, up from there the best Pizzeria "Del Sole" and next store is a gellato shop, and ten minute walk to supermarket at the end of Via de Poeta.
Two weeks isn't enough time given the hassle of flying....plan on at least a month.
And read the reviews. They tell the wonderful story.
We had a great stay.
I stayed in this apartment for almost 2 weeks and it could not have been more perfect for me. I loved everything about it! Comfort, cleanliness and charm were all excellent. The added extra ambience of the apartment opening to a balcony overlooking the interior courtyard was particularly magical for someone like me wanting to recreate my family roots in Emilia Romagna. All of Bologna can be explored on foot from this amazing, central location. Santo Stefano Piazza is only a few blocks away and a perfect spot for a meal or a coffee. I was traveling alone and never felt unsafe in Bologna. Particularly this area, building and apartment felt safe and secure. The bed was very compfortable and the linens "made in Italy". I unpacked everything and an armoire and extra large drawers in the bathroom where perfect for hanging and folded clothes and shoes. There are a lot of extra details like a shelf for luggage storage and a hat rack perfect to also hang scarves or purses. Marina herself is a lovely women. I arrived late and was especially happy to have the snack she provided. In addition to providing brochures on Bologna's sites she made suggestions about local markets, etc. and answered all of my questions. I traveled for several weeks and the WIFI here was better than anywhere else I stayed!! 5 stars and I will absolutely return.
Wonderful location, nice apt, charming and very helpful owner make this a great place to stay while visiting Bologna. We enjoyed our stay in Bologna- it is a city with many interesting sights and for a "foodie" it offers excellent markets, production tours and a choice of many good restaurants.
I stayed in this apartment for 7 nights at the beginning of Oct. 2014. WOW! I loved every aspect about the apartment.
*Conveniently located - Bologna is a great city to explore as it is very small and walkable. Everything that you would want to see is walkable from the apartment. It is especially close to:
-Quadrilatero (open air food markets) - I went to these markets every day to buy fresh vegetables and fruits. It was wonderful.
-Via Cavour - These shops are definitely out of my price range, but fun to walk around.
Again, these were so close but really the whole city is.
*Quiet - the apartment was so quiet as it was located overlooking a beautiful courtyard with trees/plants. I would definitely stay in the south side of Bologna as the north side is loud.
*Apartment - I was in Bologna alone and found the apartment to be a perfect size for 1 or 2 people. It has everything I could ask for.
Bedroom - The bed was very compfortable and the bedding (sheets) were of great quality. I am a stickler for good sheets and Marina's were top quality made in Italy.
There is a nice size armoire to store your clothes and shoes. The armoire has lavender in it to give it a nice smell.
Bathroom - Shower was great - no problems with water pressure or temperature.
The hair dryer was good even for thick wavy hair that needs to be straightened :-)
The size of the bathroom is long but narrow. So if you are on the larger size it may not be very comfortable for you. But for most people it will be fine.
Safety - Never did I feel unsafe in Bologna and definitely not by the apartment. You actually have to open (with keys) 3 doors before you get to the apartment. The doors are so European! Wrought iron doors - so cool! I felt so safe that I left the doors to the apartment open to get fresh air.
Cleanliness - extremely clean - no problems
Character - sooo much character in the apartment. Reflects Marina's delightful personality.
Balcony - this was a wonderful place to relax and read or use my computer. A very nice selling point.
Marina herself is a lovely women. She was very helpful with all of my questions and gave me hints about shopping! I was very grateful for the snack she provided upon arrival.
I give this apartment 5 stars and would not hesitate to recommend to anyone.
We stayed here for 6 nights in September. The apartment is clean and cosy and has a lovely terrace looking down onto the central courtyard. It was very quiet and peaceful even though it was so close to the city centre which was really good for going out day and night. Marina was lovely and very helpful. I would recommend it.
The 'University of Bologna is the oldest in the Western world (born in 1099 AD) and the Municipal Opera House also. Bologna is the most important highway and railway hub of Italy.
