Guestbook comments from the owner

We thoroughly enjoyed our 10 day holiday in Semur en Auxois. What a delightful medieval town, looking like a fairy tale, it oozes French charm. The perfect base to enjoy the many enjoyable attractions in the area.

Patricia, owner of the property, is kind and helpful, speaks perfect English, which helped to make our stay memorable.

Semur has all the shops you could wish for, including a market on Sundays. Its charm, however, is in many medieval buildings and the lovely river that runs through the town.

On our first evening walk to the town, we were delighted to hear a nightingale right near the cottage. The perfect start to the perfect holiday...

Cosy, immaculate cottage, beautifully renovated.

  • 4 out of 5
Our family of 2 adults and 2 girls aged 15 & 8 stayed in Patricia's gorgeous cottage in the middle of winter earlier this year. Patricia could not have been more helpful in providing us with advice on where to visit at such a quiet time of year. The cottage is beautifully maintained and very cosy during the winter but has a lovely garden, which I imagine is lovely in the summer. There are stunning views from the upper floor across to the medieval ramparts and the cottage is located a very short walk into the delightful village, which is well worth spending 1/2 a day walking around. We did a few day trips around the local countryside including hiring bikes and riding along the canals - a bit cold in January but lots of fun. We also spent a delightful afternoon with Patricia partaking in a 'family cookery class' where she taught us the delights of making macaroons. An afternoon of great hilarity and fun with the bonus of delicious macaroons at the end of it. I would highly recommend trying the cookery class with Patricia. Semur-en-Auxois is a great base to explore the wonderful Burgundy region and is a gorgeous place to stay in its own right with lots of cafe's, restaurants, little shops and its very own castle. I can't speak highly enough of Patricia and we loved our stay in the cottage in this beautiful part of the world. We hope to be back during warmer months.

Absolutely Lovely!

  • 5 out of 5
I traveled with my wife and mother-in-law and cannot rave enough. Patricia was wonderful and so helpful and her rental was compact, clean and very nicely appointed. We were missing a coffee press and Patricia brought one over right away! The garden is lovely and we cooked almost every night, buying groceries from the shop in town. Semur is a lovely little town with a nice vibe and gorgeous scenery. The stone walls do get a bit damp so the autumn nights were cold - take warm socks or slippers - but the bed was comfy and very warm. I highly recommend this rental!!

Owner's Response: Dear Julia,
Thank you very much for such a good and constructive review, I am so happy you all enjoyed the rental and the town. Although the weather was good during the day, mid-season rentals may requires the heating to be on a bit earlier. I will recommend guests bring warm socks and slippers.., in the add. Thank you - Patricia

Fabulous holiday in Burundy

  • 5 out of 5
We had a wonderful stay, the house is beautifully renovated and full of both character and comfort. Only a short stroll into the town, and you can see the ramparts from the bedroom windows. We enjoyed relaxing in the garden, taking in the views. Even the tourist train runs right outside the back garden!
Semur is a good base for exploring Burgundy. We would highly recommend this property for a great break, and we are already planning our next visit!
