Wireless internet, iPod / iPhone Docking Station, plus pre-recorded iPod, English TV, 100+ DVD Library,

The villa is private and near a medieval village and Roman vineyard. Yet only 20 minutes from Nice airport.

The POOL is digitally oxygenated and professionally cleaned.

UPPER FLOOR:

MASTER BEDROOM - with en suite shower-room & large, private terrace with a salon.

BEDROOM TWO – 2 single beds or 1 large double. Uses family bathroom.

BEDROOM THREE / The ground floor STUDIO - Double bed, shower/WC, breakfast corner, drinks fridge, wall-mounted TV with DVD library and wireless internet.

The location is perfect for a relaxing poolside and beach holiday but also offers many local sight-seeing attractions for the more energetic. Famous local art institutions such as the Fondation Maeght and the Matisse Chapel are minutes away. Restaurants, markets, beaches and pretty villages are in abundance.

Once an old fruit farm, the house offers views of the famous Saint Jeannet Baou mountain and towards the Riviera's coast. It was bought as a holiday-home by my grandmother so I know the house and the area very well.

The contents were all individually sourced and not from a standard buy-to-let stock shop. From the handmade lined curtains to hotel quality towels. Open-plan kitchen with new white goods (dishwasher and washing machine) & quality cookware. I hope that you will be able to tell that it is maintained by a proud owner and not by a management company.

Please feel free to ask as much information as you wish about the house, the area and about secure payments (CREDIT CARDS accepted).

Please enquire about longterm / winter monthly rates.

About Camilla Leslie

My English grandmother bought the property in 1962, a time when there were very few foreigners living 'in the hills'. We had all our family holidays at La Colette but it was always let out to holiday-makers when we were back in Ireland. In the old days mother would painstakingly write descriptions on the back of photographs, snail-mail them and after a week or so there would be long talks on the telephone before a booking would be made. She would be 'horrified' at the thought of a one second booking made 'in space'!

Camilla Leslie purchased this villa in 1962

Why Camilla Leslie chose Vence

La Colette used to be an old fruit farm so has a charming authenticity. Many guests come to stay here with a long list of the amazing things one can do and see in this famous area. But on departure they usually 'confess' to having hibernated for the week. The pool is on the highest level behind the house so guests can sunbathe in peace and enjoy the views towards the coast and of the famous Baou mountain where Hitchcock's To Catch A Thief was filmed.

What makes this villa unique

In one sentence, La Colette just has a very special ambience. Everyone says so, it's not just my bias. So many nice times have been had here. The front dining terrace has witnessed some incredible people, some incredible conversations and lots of great food and wine. La Colette may be a cherished home but it has been decorated in a way that it becomes your home. Nothing worse than going on holiday and having photos of strangers staring at you or where there's so many personal nicknacks that you can't find your handbag!

Guestbook comments from the owner

''Leaving very, very reluctantly, returned the keys, all that remains for us to do is say thank you for a magical holiday. La Colette was both a beautiful base to explore the rich and fascinating area and a wonderful home from home. And as for the pool…Most fabulous holiday. Thank you so much!''

Villa La Collette - shared by 3 couples

  • 4 out of 5
Camilla was extremely helpful, organising taxis to and from the airport and from restaurants in the evening. She also advised us on where best to eat and booked a couple of tables for us which we were delighted with.
The Villa was clean and well equipped and the pool, about 6 feet deep throughout, was wonderfully clean with lovely water. There were lots of basic foodstuffs in the cupboards which was very handy and saved us having to purchase everything. We had decided not to hire a car and found the bus service very good once we had figured out how to use the timetable!
Unfortunately, the lower ground floor self contained 3rd bedroom, (described as on the first floor on the website) was in need of improvements and a general spruce up, leaving the couple occupying it rather disappointed. In addition, the outside of the property and paved areas adjacent to the pool area were in need of some general maintenance at the time of our visit.

Most lovely house and most wonderful hostess

  • 5 out of 5
We (my three young kids, my husband and I) had the most amazing and memorable week of vacation in Camilla's lovely house.

The house is a little "coin de Paradis". The house itself is adorable inside and out. It is located on a very peaceful and very lovely planted piece of property with amazing views. We could hear the grillons and smell the rosemary and thyme that is omnipresent on the property. We spent every dinner and breakfast on the wonderful pergola which was cool and shady thanks to the lovely glycine that covers the wood beams of the pergola.

The house had all appliances I could need (and more) to make delicious breakfasts and dinners. To top it all, when we opened the kitchen closets, we were surprised to find a huge number of great staples: sugar, oil, vinegars, spices, teas, coffee, jellies, honeys and so much more! The swimming pool was perfect for the kids and us. Both the pool itself and its setting was exquisite. The kids were very happy to find some swimming toys that Camilla left there for their enjoyment.

Five minutes walk from the house was a delicious bakery. We went there every single day (as it is open seven days a week) and bought breads, desserts, croissants and other delicious breakfast treats. We also went to the butcher in the old village of St. Jeannet. The butcher was delightful and his meat and prepared food was top quality and taste. He also sells fruits and vegetables from around that were so full of savour.

And now a few words about our wonderful hostess. Camilla was delightful; she was very respectful of our privacy but was always there when we needed her for advice. She gave us some great tips and ideas about places to visit with the kids which we all enjoyed very much. Thank you Camilla! We will definitely come back!

Our best holiday EVER!

  • 5 out of 5
We have just (reluctantly) returned to the UK from a week at La Colette. The location is perfect - fantastic views, secluded and private but within walking distance of wonderful local amenities. We spent happy days in the sunshine by the pool and our favourite trip was to picturesque St Paul de Vence where we lunched at the beautiful Colombe D'Or - highly recommended (but expensive).

Camilla ensured our stay was perfect - the villa catered for our every need & we would thoroughly recommend the whole experience!

Owner's Response: I totally agree regarding the Colombe d'Or. It's an 'institution' with stunning art (Picasso et. co.) and the most beautiful dining terrace I know. The menu hasn't changed in forty years but I still love their hors-d'oeuvre platters!

Superb!

  • 5 out of 5
Fabulous location on the quiet valley near St Jeanette - just down the road from Vence.

With a private pool deck and secluded terraces scattered across the property, the only reason we left was to stock up on supplies from the local shops (walking distance).

* kitchen/bedrooms are excellent
* friendly owners with lots of local contacts

Highly recommended for those looking for a quiet week away in the french countryside.

* p.s. - its a little tricky to find so consult google maps before departing.

Charming villa, relaxing vacation

  • 4 out of 5
My wife and I, her parents and our 2 year old daughter stayed at Camilla's villa for a week. We had a great time and were really impressed by how hard Camilla tried to help us enjoy our stay. She found an airport taxi with a child seat for us, gave good tips on local places to eat and visit and hike, and was really very friendly. The upstairs toilets had a problem with the pipes getting blocked up, but she called in a plumber immediately, and we used the downstairs bathroom for a little more than a day while the problem was fixed.

We enjoyed making dinners in the rustic kitchen and eating on the terrace under the pergola and wisteria. There was room for privacy if you wanted it, and we enjoyed the pool and the fantastic view of the valley from the poolside.

The bakery and grocery store were a short walk uphill, but the bakery is well worth the hike in the morning. We had a really nice time and all agreed we would stay again if we traveled to Vence again.

Thank you Camilla, Micahel and Erin.

Owner's Response: Thank you, Michael and Erin. You were lovely and appreciative guests. By the way, my glamorous Christmas present to myself is connecting the villa to the main drains :)

Delightful, peaceful spot

  • 5 out of 5
I've stayed at La Colette a couple of times now and it's one of my very favourite places. It's quiet and peaceful - it's actually quite 'homely' - and it's perfect for a sunny retreat, a place to go and write your book or read or just potter about in the sunshine by the pool. It's very close to the lovely village of St Jeannet for provisions, cafes etc., and the bustle of Nice is very close too but I've actually found little need to go there, save for the odd spot of people-watching and restaurant meal out. The weather is particularly great in this area as well. Can't recommend the place highly enough and for what you get and if you think of the area as well, it represents very good value for money.

Owner's Response: Villa La Colette is family-owned and managed, and not just a buy-to-let property. One of the reasons why everyone who comes to stay here appears so 'at home' and why they keep coming back. Plus the delightfully pretty local towns and villages have a distinct away-from-it-all feel despite being so close to a major town like Nice. Best of all worlds!

SAINT JEANNET / VENCE / SAINT PAUL DE VENCE

The French Riviera needs little description. It's infamous, yet still has many 'undiscovered' and hugely delightful corners. Villa La Colette’s nearest village, mediaeval Saint Jeannet, was the location for Hitchcock's 'To Catch a Thief'. During the shooting of this classic movie leading lady Grace Kelly met Prince Rainier III of Monaco; and became a Princess just a year later. Star Cary Grant’s (aka John Robie) villa’s is below the Baou mountain (see photo) and still exists for a discrete walk or drive-by.

Saint Paul and Vence reflect the classic Riviera but with a more modest twist. More relaxing than the coast yet only a short drive away from some of the most famous holiday spots in the world: Cannes, Juan Les Pins, Antibes, Nice, Monaco and Menton. And not forgetting that Italy is only an hour away. Art 'institutions' such as the Fondation Maeght, the Matisse Chapel and iconic hotel the Colombe d'Or are just a few of the delights that put this area on the map.

The weather is temperate and often ridiculously perfect. And winter holidays can offer the very best of both worlds: skiing and lunch in the sun followed by relaxing in the evening by the open fireplace at La Colette.

Saint Jeannet village is 3 minutes, Vence town centre 7 minutes and Saint Paul de Vence is 12 minutes away by car. A car is recommended but there’s a little bus that leaves from directly below the villa and costs just a Euro a trip.

Nice International airport (very clean and easy - you're usually smelling the sea air within minutes of landing) is only a 20 minute drive away from the villa. But do consider also Toulon and Marseille International airports. They're only 1.5- 2.15 hour drive away and will give you more flight options and deals. EasyJet, BA, BMI and Aerlingus and many other airlines all provide frequent flights to this area.

A taxi from Nice airport costs around 45-60 Euro. A professional taxi driver who knows the house can pick you up. Please call or email me to book this service.

Internationally-renowned ski resorts (Isola 2000 and Auron) are only 83 kms away. Monaco / Monte Carlo is 45 minutes away and the Italian market / seaside town San Remo (great for a day out) is just over an hour away.

NEAREST AMENITIES are a 5 minute walk away:

Hotel / Restaurant

Pharmacy

Brasserie - big, good and very reasonable. Local workers all eat there.

Bar / Tabac

Thai Restaurant (excellent food, awful decor)

Pizza Takeout and Delivery

Indian Delivery (the restaurant is in Vence)

Two bakeries (The nearest is divine!)

Supermarket (Marché U with fish counter and butcher)

Petrol Station (sells BBQ charcoal and firewood)

Newsagent (sells foreign newspapers and magazines)

Beauty Salon

Dry-cleaners

Florist

Vet

Estate Agent (in case you're inspired to stay!)
