There are two bedrooms on the upper level, the studio is on the first floor.

2 terraces : 1 with a large teak dining table just off the kitchen to enjoy dining al fresco & 1 with a salon for enjoying a cocktail under the evening sun.

Open-plan kitchen with new white goods (dishwasher and washing machine) & quality cookware.

Once an old fruit farm, the house offers views of the famous Saint Jeannet Baou mountain and towards the Riviera's coast. It was bought as a holiday-home by my grandmother so I know the house and the area very well.

All the bedrooms are a decent size and charming - no one gets the 'dud' room. The house is spacious, sunny, open-plan and all the rooms are on same floor (except for the private studio bedroom on the first floor) and flow from the front terrace right through to the sunbathing terrace at the back of the house which is just below the raised pool-garden. There are no cramped rooms or corners. But there are still lots of areas to have some private time.

The contents were all individually sourced and not from a standard buy-to-let stock shop. From the handmade lined curtains to hotel quality towels. I hope that you will be able to tell that it is maintained by a proud owner and not by a management company.

The location is perfect for a relaxing poolside and beach holiday but also offers many local sight-seeing attractions for the more energetic. Famous local art institutions such as the Fondation Maeght and the Matisse Chapel are minutes away. Restaurants, markets, beaches and pretty villages are in abundance.

Winter is also lovely in the south of France. Crisp mornings, sunny days, warm enough to eat lunch on the beach, crisp evenings by the fireplace and skiing only an hour's drive away. It's why I live here!

About Camilla Leslie

My English grandmother bought the property in 1962, a time when there were very few foreigners living 'in the hills'. We had all our family holidays at La Colette but it was always let out to holiday-makers when we were back in Ireland. In the old days mother would painstakingly write descriptions on the back of photographs, snail-mail them and after a week or so there would be long talks on the telephone before a booking would be made. She would be 'horrified' at the thought of a one second booking made 'in space'! She made a lot of friends doing it the old-fashioned way even if it were time-consuming. I am a screenwriter who has been living down here, with my son Paolo-Luca, for the last 12 years. My father and most of my family are/were writers. Our ancestral Irish home also welcomes guests and is run by my sister. But it's my 96 year old disco-dancing (in a 3-piece suit!) uncle who is the star of the show there.

La Colette used to be an old fruit farm so has a charming authenticity. Many guests come to stay here with a long list of the amazing things one can do and see in this famous area. But on departure they usually 'confess' to having hibernated for the week. The pool is on the highest level behind the house so guests can sunbathe in peace and enjoy the views towards the coast and of the famous Baou mountain where Hitchcock's To Catch A Thief was filmed.

What makes this villa unique

In one sentence, La Colette just has a very special ambience. Everyone says so, it's not just my bias. So many nice times have been had here. The front dining terrace has witnessed some incredible people, some incredible conversations and lots of great food and wine. La Colette may be a cherished home but it has been decorated in a way that it becomes your home. Nothing worse than going on holiday and having photos of strangers staring at you or where there's so many personal nicknacks that you can't find your own things!

SAINT JEANNET / VENCE / SAINT PAUL DE VENCE

The French Riviera needs little description. It's infamous, yet still has many 'undiscovered' and hugely delightful corners. Villa La Colette’s nearest village, mediaeval Saint Jeannet, was the location for Hitchcock's 'To Catch a Thief'. During the shooting of this classic movie leading lady Grace Kelly met Prince Rainier III of Monaco; and became a Princess just a year later. Star Cary Grant’s (aka John Robie) villa’s is below the Baou mountain (see photo) and still exists for a discrete walk or drive-by.

Saint Paul and Vence reflect the classic Riviera but with a more modest twist. More relaxing than the coast yet only a short drive away from some of the most famous holiday spots in the world: Cannes, Juan Les Pins, Antibes, Nice, Monaco and Menton. And not forgetting that Italy is only an hour away. Art 'institutions' such as the Fondation Maeght, the Matisse Chapel and iconic hotel the Colombe d'Or are just a few of the delights that put this area on the map.

The weather is temperate and often ridiculously perfect. And winter holidays can offer the very best of both worlds: skiing and lunch in the sun followed by relaxing in the evening by the open fireplace at La Colette.

Saint Jeannet village is 3 minutes, Vence town centre 7 minutes and Saint Paul de Vence is 12 minutes away by car. A car is recommended but there’s a little bus that leaves from directly below the villa and costs just a Euro a trip.

Nice International airport (very clean and easy - you're usually smelling the sea air within minutes of landing) is only a 20 minute drive away from the villa. But do consider also Toulon and Marseille International airports. They're only 1.5- 2.15 hour drive away and will give you more flight options and deals. EasyJet, BA, BMI and Aerlingus and many other airlines all provide frequent flights to this area.

A taxi from Nice airport costs around 45-60 Euro. A professional taxi driver who knows the house can pick you up. Please call or email me to book this service.

Internationally-renowned ski resorts (Isola 2000 and Auron) are only 83 kms away. Monaco / Monte Carlo is 45 minutes away and the Italian market / seaside town San Remo (great for a day out) is just over an hour away.

    A deposit of 30% will be required on booking / on return of the signed booking contract.

    The 30% deposit is returnable in full if the cancellation is 8 weeks before the arrival date. After that I will of course try to accommodate any exceptional circumstances. But I recommend taking out a holiday insurance to cover life's unforeseeable events.

    The 70% balance (plus the 500e security deposit ** is required to clear 8 weeks before your arrival date.

    If your booking is made less that 8 weeks before your arrival date the full rental amount is required along with the REFUNDABLE security deposit of 500 Euro.

    ** The Security Deposit is refundable on departure day via Euro cash/cheque or 1 week later via bank transfer. Deposit can also be paid in cash (500E or £420) on arrival and returned on departure.
  • 1 set of linen and towels (bottom sheet, duvet cover, 2 pillow-cases, 1 large, 1 medium, 1 hand & 1 pool/beach towel) per person per week is included.
    The linen is professionally cleaned.
    Extra sets of linen are 15e per person.
  • GENERAL NOTES:

    Weekly rates are all-inclusive (parking, linen, towels, WIFI, changeover cleaning etc.)

    Longer stays are available from October to May. Please email me regarding availability and the all-inclusive rates.

    Arrival time is 4pm and departure time is 10am.

Fabulous location on the quiet valley near St Jeanette - just down the road from Vence.

With a private pool deck and secluded terraces scattered across the property, the only reason we left was to stock up on supplies from the local shops (walking distance).

* kitchen/bedrooms are excellent
* friendly owners with lots of local contacts

Highly recommended for those looking for a quiet week away in the french countryside.

* p.s. - its a little tricky to find so consult google maps before departing.

My wife and I, her parents and our 2 year old daughter stayed at Camilla's villa for a week. We had a great time and were really impressed by how hard Camilla tried to help us enjoy our stay. She found an airport taxi with a child seat for us, gave good tips on local places to eat and visit and hike, and was really very friendly. The upstairs toilets had a problem with the pipes getting blocked up, but she called in a plumber immediately, and we used the downstairs bathroom for a little more than a day while the problem was fixed.

We enjoyed making dinners in the rustic kitchen and eating on the terrace under the pergola and wisteria. There was room for privacy if you wanted it, and we enjoyed the pool and the fantastic view of the valley from the poolside.

The bakery and grocery store were a short walk uphill, but the bakery is well worth the hike in the morning. We had a really nice time and all agreed we would stay again if we traveled to Vence again.
