Centrally located 5 minutes walk from the town centre, Forgan Cottage was fully renovated in 2012 to a high standard for the holiday rental market and as a private holiday home. The cottage was built circa 1896 by the Forgan family who in the late 1800s were one of the leading golf club manufacturers based in St Andrews.
The cottage has been tastefully modernised and redecorated throughout, with new kitchen and bathrooms, newly carpeted bedrooms, stairs and upper hall and oak flooring in the downstairs hall and living area.
The bright living/dining area looks out onto the back garden and the path along the Kinness Burn can be accessed through the rear garden gate.
All bedrooms have king size beds, two of which can be converted to twin beds.
There is a large centrally heated basement with washing machine, tumble dryer, additional fridge and freezer. There is also ample space to store bikes and golf clubs.
We bought the cottage because our son is studying at St Andrews University and the town is a lovely place for either a day trip or a few nights stay as it is not too far from where we live in Glasgow.
Patricia Graham purchased this cottage in 2012
My son and I looked at several properties but Forgan Cottage had a very nice atmosphere about it and we could see it had potential to be a fabulous holiday home and place for him to stay when he is studying.
It is only a very short walk from the town centre but also has plenty of free parking outside. It is centrally located for either the West or East sands which was important as we have a dog.
We have fully refurbished the cottage and it is extremely comfortable either in summer or winter. New central heating and continuous hot water make it a cosy place to stay even in the depths of winter. The garden at the back looks onto the Kinness Burn which is a lovely feature in the summer.
We love spending time in the cottage as it has an extremely relaxing feel to it.
We stayed 4 days in St. Andrews for a scientific meeting and because of a limited budget most of the (golf) hotels were not an option. However, the Cottage was far better than a normal hotel, well organized kitchen, good beds and a fine living made it perfect for our stay. The cottage had good parking availability and was very clean. The city centre and the university are at walking distance.
Conclusion: Staying in the Forgan Cottage was an excellent choice.
We had a wonderful experience. The owner was easy to deal with. The place was updated and very clean. A short walk to town and no trouble finding parking on the street. I highly recommend staying here!
The property was a perfect location and a great spot for launching golf outings. We were with walking distance of all the shops and pubs.
What a beautiful home! It was by far the nicest apartment/home during our two week tour of Scotland. The back patio is larger than pictured. The bedrooms are lovely with comfortable beds. It was a very easy walk to everything- hubby walked to the old course both days with his clubs and our 3 and 5 years old boys had no problem walking to/from town. We wish we could have stayed longer!!
Location of property was great with the centre of St Andrews approx 10 minute walk away. Everything was clean and well maintained, bedrooms were a good size. A nice touch to find milk and wine in the fridge on arrival...just what was needed after a long journey! As we were in St Andrews for my sons RAF parade it was in a perfect position especially for my elderly parents who have difficulty walking too far. I would highly recommend this property and just wished we could have stayed longer.
The accommodation exceeded our expectations. It was furnished to a very high standard and its location is prefect - a short walk to the centre of St Andrews. Highly recommended.
The cottage is ideally placed a few minutes walking distance from the town centre with its excellent selection of shops, restaurants, pubs, the famous Byre Theater, cinema and leisure facilities.
The west sands beach, world famous golf courses, golf museum and sea life aquarium are an easy 10 minute walk to the north of the cottage. The east sands, harbor and leisure center are a 10 minute walk to the east of the cottage.
There are numerous golf courses within 20 to 30 minutes drive and the Old Course Hotel and Fairmont Hotel have luxury spas.
