Comfortable and well Equipped - Minor Issues

  • 3 out of 5
The holiday home was ideal in most ways for our family party of 4 adults and 2 children. The flat screen TVs in all rooms were great, the wi-fi perfectly adequate for all our needs, the heating is good and parking is adequate for two cars. There is a nice garden with patio at the rear. The kitchen is modern and comes with everything that you would expect and included a small welcome pack (the Betty's pack was nice although milk and bread would have been more useful as there are no shops nearby). There are are a few negatives worth mentioning which would make the place even more desirable if attended to.The property in general is starting to look slightly tired in some areas, e.g. the carpets in the entrance / stairs were rather grubby and the sizeable sofas in the lounge definitely would benefit from a professional cleaning. The two double beds were comfortable but not king sized. In our room, on the ground floor, the ceiling extractor in the en-suite shower room was totally clogged with dust and hair. The nearest shops, restaurants etc are quite a walk away (approx. 15 / 20 min - £7 to £8 each way for a six seater taxi). However, we did have an enjoyable weeks stay in York.

Owner's Response: Mike thanks for your feedback and I'm glad you had a good time in York and at George House.
The carpets and sofas are cleaned twice a year, but I'll make sure the cleaners check the bathroom extractors.

We look forward to seeing you again.

Well equipped modern townhouse

  • 5 out of 5
Spent long bank holiday weekend in this modern clean well equipped house. The house is situated on a modern estate close to the National Railway Museum - and the annoucements from York Station can be clearly heard from about 6am. This said, it wasn't offputting or distracting and the house is well maintained, well furnished and kitchen particularly well equipped should you wish to self cater. The only thing missing was the practical information you need to get you started - which is the shortest route into town, where is the nearest grocery shop and what is a good cab firm to call when its raining! It is a good 10-15 minute walk into town or a £5 cab ride. There are a host of bars and restaurants to choose from, book ahead on busy weekends or be prepared to eat later. The railway museum is free with suggestions donations of £3 each, the Minster is £10 and extra charge to go up the Tower. Bettys Tea Rooms is a must - we booked for the posh champagne tea as it was a special occasion and it was delightful with friendly knowledgeable staff and VERY yummy cakes. If you visit go down to the Oak Room and look at the mirrors which were engraved by servicemen during the war - very poignant. A walk on the walls is a great idea if you want a different perspective on the city, as is the River Trip mainly for the informative commentary rather than the view. We walked miles, spent lots and had a thoroughly great time - all helped by the fact we had a great house to stay in with really comfortable beds! I would have no hesitation in recommending this house or returning myself.

Excellent location, excellent property

  • 5 out of 5
I can well recommend this property. It's location is ideal for both the centre of York and the NRM. The ability to take two vehicles, albeit with a squeeze, is a significat advantage.
Property is in excellent condition, well prepared and with a nice 'welcome pack'.
You will not be disappointed
