Wonderful pet friendly retreat

  • 5 out of 5
This was our first visit to Pirate Lookout and our first holiday away with our two dogs. The property is amazing and much better than I honestly expected.

The secure garden, private parking and general privacy / security of the property is wonderful and made us feel comfortable that our dogs could roam around without being a nuisance to other residents / the owner.

The property is very well equipped as other reviews have said and has a real home from home feel with everything you could possibly want. The white washed wood and interior decor is charming, in particular the upstairs bedroom which strangely has the feel of being in a boat cabin. If the weather had been better i could quite happily have spent a day sitting out on the upstairs balcony reading a book.

The surrounding area has some wonderful walks for those with dogs and is also close enough to visit places such as Rye, Camber Sands and Battle. Sadly not enough time to do everything during our visit.

Cecilia was a most gracious owner and made us feel very welcome during our stay. We would most certainly recommend this property and will be planning another stay next year.

Stunning property - even better than last year!

  • 5 out of 5
This was a return visit to Pirate Lookout. We enjoyed it so much last year that we stayed longer this time. We were let into the property through the security gates by the friendly owner, Cecilia. The welcome pack was amazing (eggs and milk, cornflakes and muesli, tea, coffee and hot chocolate, and a luxury box of truffle chocolates). The cottage was spotless throughout and had a lovely smell of fresh flowers.
The property now has 2 bedrooms and two bathrooms (1 of each upstairs and downstairs). All are very well equipped with deep baths. The new bathroom has a separate shower cubicle. The kitchen has everything you would need! The living room had two sofas (including a sofa bed), a dining area and plenty of space. Outside there is a large, private garden area with table, seating and a barbecue. New this year, are two balconies which can be reached from the upstairs double bedroom (which has another sofa bed). These are lovely sun-traps and are very private. Sun-lounger and chairs (with cushions) are all provided and the whole area is decorated with plants to complete the “rooftop garden area.” It has shade from surrounding trees but is large enough to be a sun-trap too. The whole property has blinds which provide privacy and lots of light. It is very secure, as its own car park and the building are surrounded by metal fences and a gate with its own security code and lights. The cottage has wireless internet and three televisions (one in the living room and one in each of the bedrooms). They have mainly free-view channels although the signal is from a Sky box. Mobile reception is very patchy.
We had a couple of minor problems which were dealt with quickly and efficiently by the owner.
When the weather permitted we could use the badminton/tennis court which was in a different shared area. This had seating with lovely sea views. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty.
The private road leading to the property has been recently renovated by the owner but is on a hill and can liable to flooding.
Plenty of information was available about the local area (including directions to the nearest supermarkets). During our stay we visited Ashford Outlet Village, Rye, Winchelsea, Hastings (including the Old Town), Battle Abbey, Bodiam Castle and Bexhill – all nearby. There are beaches too.
This is the best place we have stayed in England for self-catering in the last 20 years. We really love this place and have booked Pixies Croft for next year.

Great Location!

We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage.
The cottage It is well equipped and offers enough space for us.
The surrounding is quite and beautiful so we had a lot of walks with our dog.
Cecillia is a great and very helpful person.
Hastings is only 10 minutes with the car and offers a lot of shops.

We can recommend this cottage in any way.

Best regards
Dirk

Dirk

WONDERFUL!

  • 5 out of 5
The biggest and best equipped 'tree house' you can imagine!

The 2 bathrooms and the kitchen have top-of-the-range fixtures and fittings. Both balconies are marvellous (one is massive!). The garden is very sheltered and has furniture and a BBQ.

Service was extremely good - right down to the fresh flowers and complementary home produced eggs.

A wonderfully quiet location. Just perfect for a very relaxing break.

Thank you!

Well equipped cottage in quiet, rural setting.

  • 5 out of 5
This was a return visit after we stayed in the owner's B and B last Summer. We booked Sunday to Sunday so we could arrive early. When we arrived we were greeted by the owner who is very friendly and helpful. We entered the gated property. The cottage had a lovely large bunch of flowers in a vase. In the fridge were some fresh eggs and some milk. In the kitchen there were 4 croissants and freshly-baked bread was also provided. There was butter too.
The property has 1 bedroom upstairs and the rest is downstairs – lounge, kitchen/diner with bathroom off the lounge. The kitchen is very well equipped with modern fan assisted electric cooker, microwave (with steamer and grill function), large hob, dishwasher, tumble drier and ironing machine! Everything you would need is provided: pots and pans, plates, cutlery etc. The washing machine is in a small utility room reached from the outside, with washing line, washing liquid and pegs provided too. In the bathroom is the deepest bath I have ever been in! There was a shower above the bath which was huge! All the toiletries you would need were also there. The living room had two sofas (including a sofa bed) a dining area and plenty of space. Outside there is decking and a large garden area available for guests use with various seat and a gas barbecue. Further afield within the grounds there is a tennis court which is laid out with badminton and petanque and seating area with beautiful sea views.
The property is in a private road which is badly maintained by the owner - a neighbour. A number of potholes were filled with water which meant a slow approach was needed. The property is surrounded by a fence and is very safe as the entry gate is by remote.
The cottage has wireless internet. I had trouble getting this on my laptop – my husband’s net-book was fine. The owner’s brother spent some time trying to fix it but was unsuccessful so lent me a cable so I could continue to use the internet without ruining my computer for future use at home. I was very happy with this. He also spent time making sure we could watch videos by showing us how. Nothing was too much trouble. Plenty of information was available about the local area (including directions to the nearest supermarkets).
The property is in an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is also within easy reach of Hastings,, Rye and the beaches of Winchelsea and Camber Sands.
We are so pleased with everything that we have already booked for next Summer!
