A very comfortable, quiet hideaway

  • 5 of 5

This is a very comfortable holiday cottage which has been furnished with care and comfort for the visitor. Lovely touches such as fresh flowers in all the rooms, fresh coffee and provisions for breakfast, comfy sofas and cushions, made us feel immediately relaxed. It has the air of a New England seaside hideaway and the balcony would have been lovely in better weather for breakfast /reading /relaxing. Safe gated property so that our dogs could potter outside and a nearby field for them to run in. Easy access to glorious beaches, ancient woods and heathland for walking. You need a car to get around, however its not far to Rye, Hastings, Battle and NT gardens for summer visitors.

Lovely, luxurious cottage close to the sea

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely long weekend at the cottage and were lucky enough to have great weather too.The cottage has everything in it you could possibly need and is very comfortable and cosy. It is within walking distance to the beautiful coastal paths The owner Cecilia is very welcoming and answers any queries you may have. We will definitely return for longer next time.

Lovely stay

  • 4 of 5

Excellent stay over new year. Property was very nice, well presented and with reasonable array of kitchen facilities. It is quite out of the way but if you follow the instructions we found it easily enough. Enjoyed walks into Winchelsea Beach and Hastings.

Wonderful pet friendly retreat

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to Pirate Lookout and our first holiday away with our two dogs. The property is amazing and much better than I honestly expected.

The secure garden, private parking and general privacy / security of the property is wonderful and made us feel comfortable that our dogs could roam around without being a nuisance to other residents / the owner.

The property is very well equipped as other reviews have said and has a real home from home feel with everything you could possibly want. The white washed wood and interior decor is charming, in particular the upstairs bedroom which strangely has the feel of being in a boat cabin. If the weather had been better i could quite happily have spent a day sitting out on the upstairs balcony reading a book.

The surrounding area has some wonderful walks for those with dogs and is also close enough to visit places such as Rye, Camber Sands and Battle. Sadly not enough time to do everything during our visit.

Cecilia was a most gracious owner and made us feel very welcome during our stay. We would most certainly recommend this property and will be planning another stay next year.

Stunning property - even better than last year!

  • 5 of 5

This was a return visit to Pirate Lookout. We enjoyed it so much last year that we stayed longer this time. We were let into the property through the security gates by the friendly owner, Cecilia. The welcome pack was amazing (eggs and milk, cornflakes and muesli, tea, coffee and hot chocolate, and a luxury box of truffle chocolates). The cottage was spotless throughout and had a lovely smell of fresh flowers.

The property now has 2 bedrooms and two bathrooms (1 of each upstairs and downstairs). All are very well equipped with deep baths. The new bathroom has a separate shower cubicle. The kitchen has everything you would need! The living room had two sofas (including a sofa bed), a dining area and plenty of space. Outside there is a large, private garden area with table, seating and a barbecue. New this year, are two balconies which can be reached from the upstairs double bedroom (which has another sofa bed). These are lovely sun-traps and are very private. Sun-lounger and chairs (with cushions) are all provided and the whole area is decorated with plants to complete the “rooftop garden area.” It has shade from surrounding trees but is large enough to be a sun-trap too. The whole property has blinds which provide privacy and lots of light. It is very secure, as its own car park and the building are surrounded by metal fences and a gate with its own security code and lights. The cottage has wireless internet and three televisions (one in the living room and one in each of the bedrooms). They have mainly free-view channels although the signal is from a Sky box. Mobile reception is very patchy.

We had a couple of minor problems which were dealt with quickly and efficiently by the owner.

When the weather permitted we could use the badminton/tennis court which was in a different shared area. This had seating with lovely sea views. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty.

The private road leading to the property has been recently renovated by the owner but is on a hill and can liable to flooding.

Plenty of information was available about the local area (including directions to the nearest supermarkets). During our stay we visited Ashford Outlet Village, Rye, Winchelsea, Hastings (including the Old Town), Battle Abbey, Bodiam Castle and Bexhill – all nearby. There are beaches too.

This is the best place we have stayed in England for self-catering in the last 20 years. We really love this place and have booked Pixies Croft for next year.

Great Location!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage.

The cottage It is well equipped and offers enough space for us.

The surrounding is quite and beautiful so we had a lot of walks with our dog.

Cecillia is a great and very helpful person.

Hastings is only 10 minutes with the car and offers a lot of shops.

We can recommend this cottage in any way.

Best regards

Dirk

Dirk

Location

Car: necessary

Fairlight is a coastal village in East Sussex under 2 hours from London, Heathrow & Gatwick airports, under one hour from Folkstone & Dover and less than half hour from Rye, Battle and Hastings. The cottage is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty with extensive country & sea views at the door step of the huge coastal National Country Park. Canber Sands and Winchelsea beaches are nearby. Take a walk through Battle Castle, the fire hills of Hastings, or the winding cobbled lanes of Rye. Just across the border of Kent is Tenterden, a town of elegance and has the attraction of the Chapel Down Winery. There are lovely villages and stately homes and gardens near by such as the world famous Sissinghurst Castle, Great Dixter and medieval Bodiam Castle. Take a picnic using the Kent & East Sussex Railway pulled by steam locomotive through the beautiful country side. Unwind the day in the tranquil environment of the cottage with its private meadows, gardens, terraces.
