About this property

Perrot en Périgord : Charming house with large swimming pool

Located at the gateway to the "Golden Triangle" of the Dordogne Valley between Sarlat and Bergerac, Maison Castelnaud welcomes you for an authentic holiday in the heart of nature. You will stay in an independent former tenant's house of more than 300 years old, part of a magnificent estate built in 1730. The hamlet "Perrot en Périgord" is composed of three stone houses of character, totally independent with their equipped terraces and private yards, as well as the main building. The size of the grounds allows all our guests to enjoy their holidays in the middle of a large landscaped park and by our large swimming pool.

Despite its age, Maison Castelnaud has all the comforts of modern life: it has been completely renovated recently and we continue to maintain it regularly to ensure that you have a pleasant holiday.

You will find quality materials and a careful and harmonious decoration in all the rooms. Beautifully restored period furniture is combined with more modern elements to give this beautiful rustic cottage its charm and authenticity.

Maison Castelnaud offers you a high standard holiday in absolute calm and in an exceptional environment: it is surrounded by 40 hectares of fields, forests and small woods. Access to the estate is via a private road 500 metres long; we are therefore far from the "outside world", from other people's cars and even from our closest neighbours. There are many footpaths leading directly from the Domaine. On your walks you will probably come across pheasants, partridges, deer and rabbits.

Our establishment has not one, not two or three, but billions of stars! Without the pollution of the cities, we enjoy an incredible sky. We are sure that you will be as amazed as we are by this spectacle of Mother Nature which appears as soon as the sky is clear. What's more, our sunrises and sunsets are breathtaking!

The town of Lalinde with its supermarket, convenience stores and small local market is only 9 kilometres away. Most of the region's tourist attractions are within a 30 km radius of the Domaine.

Our site is set in 1.5 hectares of parkland with ancient trees, flowers in all seasons and a large swimming pool nestled in the ruins of an old barn. The pool is south facing, fenced and alarmed. The children will find their happiness in the small house filled with toys adjacent to the pool area. The park has many places to relax and leisure activities (deckchairs, hammocks, parasols, table tennis, badminton, petanque,...). Books and board games are available for everyone.

Maison Castelnaud comfortably accommodates up to 6 people.
*** If you are more than 6 people, please check our second advert "Perrot en Périgord": our charming villa Lascaux can accommodate 6 more people. ***

wonderful stay
Bettina and Olivia were brilliant hosts. The welcome drinks to meet the other guests was a lovely added touch. The Gite itself was perfect for our needs and had everything we needed for our stay. The welcome booklet had lots of really useful information too. We were very sad to leave. Thank you both for a wonderful stay. Hopefully we'll see you again in the not too distant future.

Magical place
We had a very pleasant week at Perrot. The gite is ideally located should you want a get-away-from-it-all break in the gentle Perigord countryside with several local walks from the door yet the tourist attractions of the Dordogne valley are a relatively short drive away. We visited during a hot spell and appreciated the cool of the rustic gite and our 8-year-old loved the swimming pool and games room in the large grounds. The hosts Bettina and Christophe were extremely welcoming, helpful and friendly. They were there if needed, but otherwise the gite and its outside eating/relaxing area was discretely private. Highly recommended!

Not a great stay
Having read all other reviews we were very excited to visit the property. Unfortunately it didn’t live up to expectations. We privately messaged the owner with what we thought about our stay to give them a chance to respond without the need to write it in the review. It turns out that everything was indeed our fault or the owners became very defensive. We did turn up 1 hour 30 mins early but due to a very long drive we couldn’t be completely accurate. Brittany was outside and you could tell she wasn’t happy about this. So my wife said we would sit in the car until the property was ready. We were allowed to check in but we didn’t feel that welcome. We weren’t shown around or explained anything about the property. All the instructions were in French or German (we are English)so we had no idea about anything. We saw Brittany on the odd occasion and Christophe never bothered welcoming us or talk to us throughout the whole stay. The property wasn’t as clean as it should have been. The back door window was broken and did not close fully allowing insects in. The shower holder was broken so we had to hold it about our heads with one hand. The washing up draining tray was all rusty which made my wife feel sick having to put clean washing up on. In reply to our email Brittany said she wasn’t aware of any of this but surely you would check everything was perfect for new guests. We bagged all the rubbish up before we left. We didn’t know what to do with it as wasn’t told or couldn’t read instructions. Brittany felt the need in her response to say that we left it. I think she should make more effort to be clear as we would have done what we were asked to if we knew. Upon leaving, are car was parked outside the owners window. No one came out to see us off or to see if we had a nice stay, I mentioned this in my email but the response was “what we we suppose to do wait outside from 8am to 10am”. I think you would hear the suitcases being loaded and as a host be listening out. We left at 10am so wasn’t at an unusual time. We have enjoyed other properties in the Dordorgne much better and for less money.
