About Almirida village
Almirida is a small pretty seaside resort to the east of the bay of Souda. Situated about 24 kilometres or 15 miles west of Chania, and is becoming more popular with package tour companies. The resort boasts an impressive crescent shaped bay, and a reasonable selection of tavernas, café bars and shops, which stretch through the village. In the evening, life revolves around the waterfront tavernas and bars,
The atmosphere is more low key than many of the more well known resorts. Located up the hill and about a 10 minute walk from the beach, is the village of Plaka. Popular for its superb views of the bay of Souda and the White Mountains. The nearby village of Kalives can be reached along a pathway 4km away, where you will find a wider variety of tavernas, shops and a bank.
Not so long ago Almirida was a fishing village and a weekend retreat for Greeks visiting from Chania. Over the past few years Almirida has slowly grown into a small resort with an expanding number of villas, apartments and quite a few small family run hotels. Despite this change, it has remained popular with Greeks and many still use it for their weekend breaks. Almirida maintains a laid back, family-friendly atmosphere - very different from the notorious brash resorts such as Malia.
In the village you will find several mini markets as well as 2 bakeries and an excellent fresh fruit and vegetable shop (The Pear Tree). The wooded countryside behind Almirida is some of the most beautiful in Crete and a walkers paradise, especially in April and May when its not too hot and the spring flowers are on show. Mountain bikes can be hired locally. There is also a reasonable bus service if you wish to venture further.
This small seaside village has two gently shelving sandy beaches backed in places with waterside tavernas. Both beaches are safe for children and there are sun beds for rent. There is also a windsurfing school on the beach.

Guestbook comments from the manager
We loved our stay and it suited the 20 somethings as well as the over 60's! Right distance from village but near enough to walk, will have to save up in order to return.
Please thank everyone for making the villa so welcoming and clean etc.
