Il Mulino is a16C water mill beautifully and sympathetically restored to make a comfortable 2 bedroomed, atmospheric house. Situated in the quiet medieval village of Valbona, the mill offers the opportunity of a quiet, peaceful holiday in an ancient Italian village. With a pretty garden withhand made furniture in keeping with the environment, a wealth of original features have been retained from the original mill as well as solid chestnut beams and original stone floors. The Water Mill has a welcoming open plan dining kitchen/living area, hand built and restored by craftsmen, and 2 large bedrooms.

We went for some down time and relaxation and couldnt have found a more perfect place.
The owner has a wealth of knowledge on the local area and could not have been more helpful or accommodating.
This converted watermill is set at the end of a valley, and is therefore remote. If, like me, you think this a thoroughly desirable aspect of a holiday - and enjoy cooking, walking (perhaps), moderate sight-seeing and relaxing - then this will suit you perfectly. Lucca and Barga are an hour's drive and a forty minutes' drive away respectively; Florence is well within striking distance. We had a superb week here, and I can highly recommend the charming two terraces and marvellous character of the property.
This is a fine opportunity to experience life in a quiet ancient Tuscan village, well off the beaten track, in the peaceful wooded countryside. The ancient village of Valbona is in a valley crossed by the river Esarulo, 7 kms from the commune village of Castiglione, which is well known medieval walled village with shops and restaurants.
The origins of Valbona go back to the middle ages, when the historic mill was used by neighbouring villages and the castle which stood in Valbona.
The area of the Garfagnana is mountainous, lush and green, and is arguably the most scenicaly beautiful region of Tuscany. It offers superb walking and we have strong links with an Outdioor Activities company with highly recommended and inexpensive excursions.
