Places to visit on holiday to New Caledonia

Holidaymakers staying in New Caledonia will find many interesting places to visit on the islands, especially around the capital city of Noumea. For example families will have a great time visiting the Parc Zoologique et Forestier at Noumea, where many native species can be seen. Another place well worth visiting is the Centre Culturel Tjibaou on the secluded Tina peninsula. Tourists can view regional exhibits at the Musee de Nouvelle-Caledonie and opposite the museum is an impressive 12 metre tall totem pole. The maritime museum is another very interesting attraction at Noumea.

Weather in New Caledonia

The climate in New Caledonia is fairly stable throughout the year with September to December perhaps the best time to visit when it is generally drier. During this period temperatures can average between 23 and 27 centigrade. January to March is slightly warmer on average, whilst the coolest time of the year is July and August with temperatures sometimes as low as 17C on the windier days.

Travel to New Caledonia

La Tontouta International Airport (NOU) is the main airport of New Caledonia and is located 50 kilometres northwest of the city of Noumea. Flights arrive here from Auckland (AKL), Brisbane (BNE), Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG), Sydney (SYD) and Tokyo-Narita (NRT) amongst other smaller airports. There are car rental firms and taxis located at the airport and elsewhere on the island.
