Nerja is a charming seaside town which marks the eastern boundary of the Costa del Sol in Malaga. Nerja, Spain has become famous for many reasons, most notably the promenade which runs along the cliff top, or the “Balcony of Europe”, which has unrivalled views of both the Mediterranean coastline below and the Sierra Almijara Mountains. As with many towns along the Costa del Sol, Nerja has a charming old centre surrounded by the newer developments and Nerja holiday rental villas, but unlike many others, this development has not detracted from the old fishing village charm.
With 16 km of beaches, Nerja villas are regularly filled with those wishing to take self catering accommodation in Nerja purely for a beach holiday. The fine, powdery sand is perfect for sun bathing and throwing a Frisbee and the crystal clear waters which gently lap the shores are a haven for water sports, from sailing to scuba diving. The popular Burrianna Beach and quaint Calahonda Beach bracket the town, so there should be a perfect spot for everyone staying in Nerja villas.
However, if you wish to leave the entertainment of the beaches, there is plenty to fill your stay in a Nerja holiday rental villa. Just 3km from the centre of the charming old town are the world famous Nerja Caves, which are adorned with 20,000 year old paintings. Many archaeological treasures have been discovered in these caves, and one of the largest has been turned into a concert hall, with year round productions, especially during the annual International Cave Festival.
Exploring the old part of town is a real joy from a holiday rental apartment in Nerja, especially from a horse drawn carriage. The narrow, twisting streets are filled with flower laden whitewashed houses, restaurants and cafes serving pescaito frito and red mullet, which are both local specialities. The Church of El Salvador and the Gardens of Capistrano Playa are also defiantly worth investigating from a Nerja apartment or villa.
Walkers will be right at home in self catering Nerja accommodation, as the Axarquia region is covered in marked trails catering for every level, experience and taste of walker.
Those looking for a holiday rental apartment in Nerja primarily for the beaches could do much worse than Burriana Beach. Sailing, scuba diving, windsurfing and fishing all thrive from Burriana Beach.
El Capistrano is a luxury development outside Nerja, where the flower and tree lined footpaths lead through the sea via communal swimming pools, tennis courts and a range of bars and restaurants.
Summers in Nerja are very warm, averaging 31°C daily in August. Winters are exceptionally mild, very rarely dropping below 10°C.
The busy Malaga International Airport (AGP) is just half an hour from the self catering Nerja accommodation available. There are a vast range of cheap flights on offer, especially during the summer, when easyJet, BMIbaby, Flybe and Ryanair fight for the large amount of business on offer.
