Between Benidorm and Javea on Spain’s Costa Blanca lies the town of Moraira, and old fishing village which has steadily started to rely on tourist income to survive. It has done this by retaining much of its Spanish fishing village charm, and refusing to be taken over by British fish and chip shops. Moraira holiday villas take the form of traditional Andalucian villas, often intermingled with stylish cafes and fish restaurants which huddle around the port.
Moraira’s main beach, the picturesque Platja de l’Ampolla, is within easy walking distance of all the accommodation in Moraira, just a few minutes past the daily fish market, which will supply all your seafood when staying in a self catering Moraira villa rental. A kilometre further on, the beach at Platja del Portet is the ideal spot to relax, as I am yet to find a more tranquil and peaceful spot to sun bathe. The golden sands are lapped gently by the turquoise waters, and are backed by quiet cafes from which to watch the world go by. There are also a great number of small, secluded and picturesque cove beaches within a few miles of a Moraira villa rental.
The clear Mediterranean waters which have created such a demand for property in Moraira are great for snorkelling and scuba diving, as well as jet ski excursions and swimming.
During July, the fiestas of Virgin del Carmen and the Virgin of the Unsheltered create organised and good humoured mayhem in the streets, making it a fantastic time to travel to Moraira.
Family holidays to Moraira are filled with entertainment and day trips. There are golf courses, sports facilities and a go-karting track. Excursions to the Aqua Park in Benidorm, the mountain fortress of Guadalest and walking in Europe’s largest palm forest are easily planned and executed from a villa in Moraira.
Just down the road, Javea is a lovely Spanish coastal resort with a rich Spanish atmosphere, complimented by the top class facilities available.
The weather in Moraira is guaranteed to be hot and sunny between May and October, when average temperatures are around 30?C. In July and August, temperatures soar to around 40?C, meaning luxury private villas in Moraira with pools are in high demand, as are beach front villas. The sea is perfect for swimming and water sports as it gets to a delightful 25?C most summers.
Alicante Airport (ALC), Valencia (VLC) and Murcia Airport (MJV) are all within an hour drive of a Moraira villa rental, although Alicante is the closest. Cheap flights to all three of these airports fly from over 24 British airports daily, so finding a cheap, convenient flight to Moraira should be very easy.
