For over a century, people have been looking forward to holidays in Montgenevre, as this winter and summer holiday resort is an exciting place to rent a chalet. The resort is the oldest in France and sits in the Cottian Alps, just on the French/Italian border. The ski area is linked to the Via Lattea ski area, which constitutes over 400km of pistes, across six reports, where Montgenevre is the only resort in France. Part of this epic ski area was used for the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics. All this is easily accessible directly from the various self catering accommodation in Montgenevre.
Montgenevre is well known as an excellent ski resort where many come for skiing and snowboarding. Directly within the Montgenevre resort there are over 65km of pistes, with access to the other 400km in the Via Lattea ski area. However, it isn’t just alpine skiing that is available in Montgenevre, the village is also home to a number of other exciting activities. There is ice skating in the village, as well as snow-shoeing, and snowmobiling during the winter. In the summer, this resort is also busy with golf, tennis and mountain biking from some of the chairlifts which are modified for summer biking use.
Montgenevre makes for a great base for a range of outdoor activities, particularly in the summer. The whole surrounding area is full of mountains, lakes and rivers so getting tours and guides out to visit these natural wonders is easy. The many lakes boast some excellent swimming and fishing in the summer, with trout being the main catch. The rivers connecting the lakes are great for rafting and kayaking.
The weather in Montgenevre is very pleasant with just enough precipitation to keep the summers green and the winters white. In the area, people expect 300 days of sunshine every year, and no more than 60mm of rain in mid-summer, generally less than 11 days out of every month. In the middle of winter the amount of precipitation is about the same as well.
