The Frigate Island Nature Reserve is an excellent place to visit, particularly for bird watchers who can see the magnificent Frigate birds nesting. The Mamiku Gardens and Estate was created in 1766 for the former Governor of St Lucia, Baron de Micoud. It is now a beautiful botanical garden which is open to the public with more than 200 varieties of plants as well as bananas and fruit. Castries is a pleasant 45 minute drive from your Mon Repos holiday villa. It is a busy port of call for Caribbean cruise ships which use its deep harbour. It has plenty of duty-free shops and a bustling market. The town itself is quite modern, having been destroyed by fire several times in its long history. Visit the 19th century Cathedral and explore the sea defenses which remain around the port before returning to your Mon Repos holiday rental retreat.
St Lucia is a popular year-round holiday destination due to its tropical sunshine and temperatures which rarely stray from 29-31°C (84-88°F). From June to November the rainfall increases, but generally falls as short tropical showers during the afternoon.
Holiday rentals at Mon Repos are served by the Hewanorra (UVF) International Airport at Vieux Fort which is in the south of the island. It is approximately 30 minutes drive by car from the airport to Mon Repos. Airlines from the USA, Canada and London all frequently use the airport which has scheduled flights from all over the world.
