Numerous shops can be found amongst the 28 communities in the province, the largest of which is Villacidro. Cafes, restaurants, small shops and markets selling locally produced goods can be found in many of these communities. Tourists will be able to buy arts and crafts as well as other souvenirs.

There are several local museums in this part of Sardinia as well as fascinating archaeological finds such as the nuraghi complex of Su Nuxari a Barumini and the Roman Sardara Thermal Baths. There are many remains of the medieval churches and castles to be found in Medio-Campidano such as the castle and village of Sanluri.

Another fascinating feature is the Domus di Janus, which are re-historic chamber tombs to be found in Carbonia-Iglesias. Several areas of natural beauty can be found in the province such as Le Dune di Piscinas, which is a nature reserve in Arbus and well worth a visit. A ferry carries passengers to the nearby island of Corsica from Santa Teresa or from Cagliari holidaymakers can take a ferry to the Italian mainland.

The average high temperatures for July and August are 30 degrees centigrade, with 11 hours of sunshine per day in July. Most of the rainfall on the island occurs during the winter although temperatures reach a minimum high in January of 4 degrees centigrade but may be as high as 15C.
