Visitors to Barbados are spoilt when it comes to top beaches and friendly coastal resorts, and Maxwell Beach is one of the finest of them all. Located on the south coast of the island within close distance of the capital Bridgetown and other key attractions, Maxwell Beach is well placed for those seeking an action-packed holiday. Many of the holiday rental options in the area overlook the picturesque beach, putting your right in the heart of the action and providing some fantastic and memorable views.
The beach is a lively area and can get busy during summer months and peak tourist periods. As well as the fine golden sands that Barbados is renowned for, the beach is also the home of a number of water sports outlets, so you can try your hand at activities such as jet skiing and windsurfing. The clear waters are also especially clean, meaning swimming can be enjoyed and parents can be confident of the health and safety of their children when playing in the waters.
Maxwell Beach is located in the parish of Christ Church, meaning the destination is just east of St. Lawrence Gap, which offers visitors an active nightlife with some excellent bars and restaurants that are open long into the night. The main town in the parish is Oistins, a key fishing area and home of the famous Friday and Saturday night ‘Fish Fry’ parties, where you can meet other tourists and locals and enjoy some delicious fresh fish and rum punch.
Bridgetown, the capital of Barbados, is just from Maxwell Beach, and can be easily reached thanks to an efficient public transport system in the area. Bridgetown is the shopping capital of the island and also has a number of tourist attractions and local landmarks to visit. These include the Garrison Savannah and National Historic Area and the famous Kensington Oval cricket ground – one of the homes of the West Indies cricket team.
There is not a bad time for a holiday in Maxwell Beach, as temperatures average above 26C throughout the year. July and August are the very hottest months in which to visit, but a tropical climate means that this is also the wettest period.
Maxwell Beach is conveniently located just 8km from the Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI). The airport receives a large number of flights from around Europe and North America, with direct services from UK coming from London Gatwick and Manchester through Thomas Cook Airlines and British Airways.
