Hawaii is a collection of islands located in Polynesia, and even the mention of its name, conjures up images of a sun blessed, idyllic paradise. Holidaymakers from all over the world head there in their tens of thousands each year to take advantage of all that it has to offer, and there are a wide variety of places to stay and accommodation types. One such example of this, is a holiday rental villa in Mauna Kea which is situated on the Kohala Coast on Big Island Hawaii. As well as being positioned near to some fabulous beaches, the accommodation boasts all the mod-cons, comfortable furnishings and a fully equipped kitchen, making it the perfect home away from home.
There are a seemingly endless amount of leisure activities on offer during a holiday in Mauna Kea, and so visitors can be assured that they will never be bored! Hawaii is of course well known for being the home of surfing, and it would be remiss not to try the sport at least once. There are a number of schools available for novices, and surf spots up and down the coast suitable for people of all experience levels. Other leisure activities that one could try include swimming, snorkelling, diving, tennis and golf.
A holiday in Mauna Kea isn’t all about time spent at the beach, as there are also many wonderful places that can be visited. A trip to Akaka Falls State Park reveals a lush interior forest region with the impressive waterfalls as its centrepiece. The nearby Onizuka Centre for International Astronomy is also recommended, and the night time stargazing program is well worth the time spent there. Other possible places to visit include the Lyman House Memorial Museum, the Pacific Tsunami Museum and the Hawaii Volcanoes National park.
Hawaii has a tropical climate, which means that it has two definable seasons, which are a wet season and a dry season. The wet season lasts from October to April, and people are less likely to book self catering accommodation in Mauna Kea during this time. The temperatures are still warm though, with day time average highs of 27 degrees Celsius. This temperature is maintained through the dry season, with the only difference being that rainfall is minimal.
The closest airport to the holiday rental villa in Mauna Kea is Kona International Airport (KOA). Although it is an international airport, there are no direct flights from the UK, and so a connection must be made at some point. One suggestion is to fly into Los Angeles (LAX) and then catch a connecting flight to Hawaii. American Airlines, Delta Airlines and United Airlines all operate a service out of Los Angeles which may be suitable.
