Maubourguet is a small market town in the Hautes-Pyrenees department of southern France, a short drive from the Spanish border. The half timbered houses and beautiful setting in the Basque countryside give Maubourguet, France a wonderfully peaceful, rural atmosphere.

During the rest of the year, Maubourguet is filled with walkers, mountain bikers and climbers looking to head into the hills. There are two rivers passing through Maubourguet, stretches of which are ideal for fishing and others a hive of activity during spring and summer as rafts descend to try and tackle the raging rapids created with the melt waters coming down from higher in the mountains. The ski resorts of the Pyrenees and the beach resorts of the Atlantic coast are both within an hour’s drive of Maubourguet too.
The town of Marciac, just 10 miles from a self catering Maubourguet villa, is famous for the huge annual jazz festival in the summer, is a fantastic place to visit. The town has all the shops, restaurants and cafes you could wish for, and for two weeks a year (usually the first 2 weeks of August), the town is alive with events, concerts and performances by some of the world’s finest performers.
During June, July and August, there is nothing nicer than heading out into the hills, as the sun shines down for many hours a day. During these months, monthly average temperatures reach around 22°C, with midday peak temperatures reaching up towards the 30°C mark with surprising regularity. Due to the altitude, conditions can be variable during the winter months, although temperatures do tend to remain mild.
The tiny airport in Pau (PUF) is the closest airport receiving direct flights from the UK. Ryanair provide direct flights fromLondonStansted (STN) and seasonal services from Bristol (BRS), but for a greater range of services, the larger international airports of Girona (GRO) and Carcassonne (CCF) are all within reach. A hire car is strongly recommended when staying in a Maubourguet property rental.
