Maiori is a popular tourist town on the beautiful Amalfi coast of Salerno, Italy. The resort is perhaps most famous for having the longest unbroken sandy stretch on the coast, and is the ideal destination for a relaxing beach holiday. Holiday rental accommodation in Maiori is of a high standard, and will also give you a great base for visiting nearby towns and cities such as Amalfi, Salerno and Naples.
Maiori is popular with tourists of both the foreign and domestic variety due to its excellent beach, and the long sandy stretch is one of the best in the region. The beach has good amenities and activity options, but you should be aware that is it privatised and you may have to pay a small fee for a sun lounger. It is, however, well worth it.
The town is well-developed in terms of amenities, and has everything you require to enjoy a Maiori self-catering holiday to its fullest. This includes a good selection of bars, shops, cafes and restaurants – so whether you decide to dine out or eat in the comfort of your Maiori holiday rental accommodation, you will have no problems locating some quality food and wine. The bulk of the busiest nightlife options can be found perpendicular to the beach, on the street of Corso Regina.
A walk around the town centre is a pleasurable experience, though can be a challenging task as there are many narrow walkways, winding paths and uphill steps to take. The result is well worth the effort though, as it is possible to get away from the main tourist areas and enjoy some excellent views out over the coast. If the walking starts to become a bit tiresome in the hot summer heat, consider renting a scooter and get about like the locals!
The busiest time in which to visit Maiori is the middle of August, the time of the Santa Maria festival. Maiori has featured in a number of Italian films, and the town also hosts a film festival every November.
Maiori has good public transport links, so although the use of a hire car is recommended, it is not a necessity. The town of Amalfi is just 5km away, and is the main tourist town in the region. Attractions and amenities in Amalfi are much the same as Maiori, but the town has the added bonus of sites of historical and cultural interest, such as an 11th century cathedral. Further afield, Salerno is 19km and Naples is 67km.
The period between September and October is the best time in which to visit Maiori, as these months have the warmest temperatures and the lowest rainfall. They are also the busiest times of the year, however, and if you prefer things a little quieter consider visiting in April or May.
Naples Airport (NAP), known locally as Aeroporto di Napoli, is the nearest international flight destination to Maiori. A number of UK airlines fly to this destination, including Thomson Airways and Thomas Cook Airlines, and the flight time is around one hour and 45 minutes from London. The airport is 39km from Maiori.
