Holidaymakers looking for an area by the Atlantic Ocean with fantastic beaches and magnificent views will not be disappointed by Little Exuma in the Bahamas. This island has a touch of paradise as well as some interesting features and places to visit. Here visitors will find numerous different places to stay including self catering accommodation, villas, condos and B&Bs.
Little Exuma is blessed with some beautiful white sandy beaches ideal for sunbathing. Holidaymakers can enjoy a swim in the sea or go snorkelling with the remains of a 200 year old ship wreck just offshore, reefs and Thunderball Grotto, which is an underwater cave used in a James Bond film. Visitors can also take boat trips with various types of sport fishing available in the Bahamas. Sea kayaking trips are offered off the Exuma coast too, where visitors can get a different view of the islands. There are some wonderful scenic views to be had and lovely places to go hiking. The island has numerous restaurants and bars with plenty of fresh fish on the menus. Self catering holidaymakers can purchase food and drinks from grocery stores and Tent Bay has a fish market. Several shops can be found here and on Great Exuma with gift stores and fashion boutiques amongst others.
Little Exuma has several notable interesting places to visit such as the remains of an old pirate fort with several canons located nearby. The Hermitage is a plantation constructed by loyalist settlers in the late 18th century. Great Salt Pond is also worth visiting and used to be the site of a salt raking industry. The island is connected to Great Exuma by a bridge and visitors can drive across in just a few minutes. Georgetown has many interesting buildings and a fantastic straw market. It is also possible to charter a boat to take a trip to some of the other islands nearby such as Big Darby, where there is an old castle and more beautiful beaches.
The temperature on the islands remains fairly constant throughout the year with an average daytime high of 83 degrees Fahrenheit. The hottest time of the year is generally July and August with average high temperatures of 89 degrees Fahrenheit. The average annual rainfall is just 50.6 inches with September the wettest with an average of 7.1 inches. Between December and March the average per month is around one and a half inches.
Exuma International Airport (GGT) is on Great Exuma, which is connected to Little Exuma. The airport is approximately 10 miles away and has flights to and from Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Nassau and Toronto as well as seasonal flights to Charlotte and Philadelphia. Visitors from Europe can fly to Miami International Airport (MIA) and get a connecting flight to Exuma. Flights from cities such as Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Munich, Paris and Zurich land at Miami. On arrival at Exuma passengers will be able to hire a car or taxi.
