Things to do
-Beaches: With over ten miles of snow-white sand fronting the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, there's plenty of room for everyone, so the crowding seen on European beaches is seldom the case. If even more seclusion is desired, however, a boat hire can access many of the deserted beaches on the hundreds of surrounding islands.
-Watersports: Sunset House North holiday accommodation is never far from the water, as Marco Island's infrastructure is latticed with canals and natural waterways. This environment means there's a host of marinas to choose from, and a complete itinerary of sports to engage in.
-Nightlife: With its refined and mature ambience, Marco Island doesn't particularly list itself among the party destinations of Florida's seaboard, but there is plenty to do once the sun goes down. Seafood restaurants dominate and beach shacks abound, selling crab, shrimp, and ice cold beers. There are more formal eateries, however, especially if visitors make the short drive up to Naples.
-Shopping: Marco Island is known for its shopping, like any conurbation where the majority of the population are wealthy and retired. The three main hubs are Marco Walk Shopping Centre, Marco Town Centre Mall and the Esplanade Shoppes, all fairly accessible on foot from Sunset House North.
-Golf: Nearby Naples is known as 'The Golf Capital of the World', which can't be wrong if the 80 competition-level courses are anything to go by. As it's only a few minutes drive away, making a ritual of playing a different round each day is viable.
Weather in Sunset House North
Florida's year-round appeal is owed mainly to its subtropical climate, which is tolerable in the summer and downright balmy in the winter. The problem often cited with Florida's summer is the humidity, which certainly makes it feel hotter than it actually is, and usually produces thunderstorms in the afternoons and evenings. The humidity is a result of all the water, which also works to moderate the temperatures; it never really gets hotter than the mid-30°C range in summer, and highs top the low-20s during winter.
Travel to Sunset House North
Flying in and hiring a car is by far the most efficient method of getting to Sunset House North accommodation. Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers is only 47 miles away, but this location has no direct flights to Europe. For a direct flight, the nearest option is Miami International Airport at 120 miles away. While this may sound far, it's only a couple of hours drive across the Everglades, which is a fascinating little road trip in itself. There's no public transport on Marco Island.
