Make a holiday villa in Leesburg your home away from home
Holiday villas in Leesburg are located in the aptly named Lake County, so labelled, no doubt, because of the profusion of lakes in the area. Midway between the east and west coast, the beaches of both are accessible in little over an hour's drive, but the main attractions of Leesburg rentals are the natural surroundings. Ocala National Forest lies directly northeast, while the Everglades' northern tip is found just south of Orlando, less than an hour away. All Leesburg holiday accommodation comes with air-conditioning and laundry facilities, and most are equipped with dishwashers, satellite/cable TV, DVD players and pool/BBQ access.
Things to do
-Nature: Whether the passion is fishing, hunting, photographing or just watching wildlife, the opportunities for all are myriad thanks to the proximity of Ocala National Forest and its famed Juniper Springs Recreation Area to Leesburg rentals. Plentiful camping, hiking and biking are to be had, while the water allows kayaking and canoeing in addition to powered craft.
-Theme Parks: To contrast with the soft dip of a paddle or the search for an elusive bird, Orlando's theme parks offer the kind of white-knuckle excitement only found on the best rides in the world. There are so many parks in Orlando an entire holiday could be spent enjoying the sights, sounds and smells. Indeed, Disney World and Universal Studios are so large, a multi-day visit must be made just to appreciate one of them.
-Watersports: While the sea is only just over an hour away, there are plenty of opportunities to get wet closer to Leesburg holiday accommodation. With Lake Griffith to the north and Lake Harris to the south, the marinas on both offer everything from fishing charters to waterskiing. For paddle-power, Juniper Springs Recreation Area offers canoe and kayak hire.
-Beaches: Many beaches line the nearby lakes, but not of the sandy variety. For those, guests can make the hour drive to either the east or west coast, where the hundreds of miles of pure white beaches that made Florida famous can be found.
-Nightlife: For BBQ, pizza and burger joints, Leesburg has quite a choice, but for fancier fare, guests may have to travel further afield. Of course, Orlando is less than an hour away, where literally anything a guest could want to eat or drink is available.
Weather in Leesburg
Long, hot summers and short, mild winters typify Florida's climate. These two seasons could also be described as the wet and dry seasons, respectively. The summers are humid thanks to the amount of water around, which typically break in the afternoons and evening into short, sharp thunderstorms. Summer temperatures rarely exceed the mid-30°C range, while winters are more tolerable in the low-20s, which makes Florida's winters remarkably similar to British summers, and explains why the winter is actually the high season.
Travel to Leesburg
The nearest international airport to Leesburg is Orlando-Sanford at 45 miles away, which is closer and caters to more budget airlines than Orlando International airport at 54 miles distant. While driving in Orlando isn't a necessity as the public transport is fairly well established, outside Orlando visitors have to fend for themselves. This is no bad thing, however, as the US is designed with the car in mind, with cheap hire cars and petrol, and an intuitive road system.
