Since the opening of Walt Disney World in 1971, Kissimmee Florida has become a popular tourist area, as it lies just a few miles from the delights of Disney, the Universal Orlando Resort and SeaWorld, and offers a great base location for when visiting these hugely popular attractions. Kissimmee itself also has much to offer, with a great range of Kissimmee golf courses, fishing opportunities and a historic downtown area, making holidays in Kissimmee ideal for the whole family.
Most rental accommodation in Kissimmee lies just 10km from the hugely popular Walt Disney World, and holiday villas in Kissimmee give you all the comforts of home when visiting the resort. This means families can have a busy and exciting day, but still a relaxing environment to come home to, and not be limited to the facilities of a hotel room.
The Kissimmee area is a golf-lovers paradise, with no less than eight world-class courses within a 20-mile radius to keep everyone happy. These include courses at Meadow Woods, Kissimmee Bay and the popular Kissimmee Oaks course. The latter offers sloping fairways that wind around the lakes, an 18-hole course, a driving range and separate chipping and putting greens.
When visiting the city itself, the visitor’s bureau is a great place to start. Here you can pick up plenty of ideas for things to do during your stay. Historic Downtown Kissimmee has plenty to offer, with a variety of shops, cafes and restaurants present in the recently renovated area. Popular visitor attractions include the Civic Centre – which plays host to a number of events that range from sports to music, the Osceola County Historical Society and Museum and the Osceola Centre for the Arts.
It goes without saying that most people will visit the Disney resort whilst staying in the area, but there are several other options worth pursuing. Orlando is just 25 miles away and offers all the shopping, entertainment and nightlife you would expect of a big city, and the beaches of Florida’s beautiful east coast are within an hour’s drive.
Kissimmee City experiences a tropical climate, with hot, humid summers that can reach above 30C during mid-afternoon, and winters than can still hit over 20C. Temperatures can still be warm at night, which is where the air-conditioning in the rental villas in Kissimmee comes in handy.
Kissimmee City has its own airport, but direct flights from the UK are not common, and most people will find the best option is to fly to Orlando Airport (MCO) and make the remaining 17 mile journey by car or public transport. Car hire is recommended, especially if you are planning on playing golf, as it will allow you much easier access to the courses in the area.
