Nicknamed the “Hoosier state”, Indiana is in the Midwest USA, at the “Crossroads of America” geographically. It is a mainly agricultural state with many small historic towns. The capital, Indianapolis, is famous for its speedway motor racing.

The town of Speedway will interest all car racing enthusiasts as it has been the home of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway since 1909 and still hosts the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR’s Brickyard 400 races. The Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial north of Lincoln City is where Abraham Lincoln spent his formative years. It is now a national park and includes a visitor centre, historic farm and many hiking trails through the surrounding forest. Major cities to visit include the capital, Indianapolis, which is home to the State Capitol building, the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument, the largest Scottish Rite Cathedral in the world and the Indianapolis Zoo. Bloomington is an arts-orientated city which is home to Indiana University, Lake Monroe and Hoosier National Forest.
Holiday rentals in Indiana have a humid continental climate with hot, humid summers and very cold winters. Summer temperatures rise to an average 29°C (84°F) in July and August and there are occasional showers. Winters are extremely cold, averaging -1C to -10C (30 to 14°F) with temperatures never rising above freezing for several weeks and plenty of snow showers.
The nearest major airports to holiday rentals in Indiana are Fort Wayne International (FWA) Airport in the northeast of the state and Indianapolis International (IND) Airport in the centre of the state. There are also two regional airports: South Bend Regional (SBN) Airport in the far north and Evansville Regional (EVV) Airport in the southwest which both have regular connections with other major airport hubs.
