Archaeologist Frank Cushing made some outstanding discoveries of Calusa art, pottery and shell tools in the area which now make up many of the fascinating museum artifacts. This restored single storey lighthouse building was once the home of the local lighthouse keeper and his family but now houses an interesting local museum.

It is a mecca for shell hunters and is the place to pick up coveted spotted junonia shells, cockles, sand dollars and other sea treasures.
