Most visitors go to Atlantic City, or AC as it is locally known, to enjoy the beach, the boardwalk and the gambling that this city is famous for. With plenty to do in the area, Atlantic City is a great city for entertainment all year round.
Atlantic City is famous for its Vegas-style casinos and gambling, although it is the only place in New Jersey where gambling is legal. As the “Gambling Capital of the East coast” it has slots, poker, roulette, keno, craps and blackjack for those interested in gambling fun. During the day the long sandy beach is perfect for sunbathing, swimming or strolling. The rolling surf makes it popular for fishing, body boarding, windsurfing and kite surfing. There is a good choice of shopping around your Atlantic City holiday rental, particularly near the casinos and at the upmarket Pier Shops at Caesars. Atlantic City Outlets runs for several blocks and the Smithville Towne Center has over 60 stores and restaurants.
Atlantic City is centered on the boardwalk, the first one ever to be built in the US. Originally it was 7 miles long and stretched from Atlantic City to Longport. Take a ride on one of the “rolling chairs” that are made of wicker and pushed along by attendants. From the boardwalk you can visit shops, hotels and casinos or gain access to several piers. Steel Pier has an amusement park while Garden Pier is the arts and culture hub of the area. Spend time in the Atlantic City Arts Center or the Historical Museum. Visit the Absecon Lighthouse overlooking the inlet. It is the tallest lighthouse in New Jersey but is no longer used as a navigational aid.
New Jersey has a humid subtropical climate with plenty of sunshine, hot humid summers and cold winters. It has precipitation all year round which falls as light snow in the winter months. Average daily high temperatures in summer reach 84°F (29°C) and drop to around 43°F (6°C) from November to March with below freezing temperatures overnight. Those staying in Atlantic City holiday rentals in spring and fall will find the weather can be pleasant but changeable with wide fluctuations in temperatures.
The nearest major airport to Atlantic City holiday rentals is Atlantic City International (ACY) Airport which is 10 miles from the center of the city. Despite its title it currently only has domestic flights. For international travellers, Philadelphia International (PHL) airport is 66 miles away. It is very easy to hire a car from the airport and drive to Atlantic City along the Atlantic City Expressway in just over an hour. Other airports to consider are J.F.Kennedy (JFK), Newark Liberty (EWR) and LaGuardia (LGA) Airports, all around 120 miles away.
