The ski resort community of Angel Fire is set in the stunningly beautiful Moreno Valley in New Mexico.
Angel Fire ski accommodation is in high demand during the winter season when thousands of discerning tourists head for this scenic area to enjoy a range of winter sports. Angel Fire Mountain is ideal for families and novice skiers yet there are enough runs to allow you to ski all day long on different runs if you choose to. There is a Children’s Ski and Snowboard Center with fully trained instructors and Liberation Snowboarding Park, at the summit of the mountain, has the only half-pipe in the state. There are 3 more terrain parks in the area making it ideal for skiers and snowboarders of all levels to find some challenges. In summer, the fun continues at Angel Fire with golf, paddle boating, hiking and mountain biking along the trails, river rafting on the Rio Grande, horseback riding, fishing and even the chance to take a hot air balloon ride.
One of the main attractions to visit from Angel Fire chalets is the Vietnam Veterans National Memorial State Park. The memorial is in memory of Marine first Lieutenant David Westphall who was ambushed and killed in Vietnam. It includes a Peace and Brotherhood Chapel, a Visitor Centre with photographs and banners and a Veterans Room. There is also a Huey helicopter used in the war, along with sculptures and a garden. Monte Verde Lake offers boating and recreational activities. The area has several ghost towns nearby such as Elizabethtown at Eagle Nest and there are several Native American Indian Pueblos and ruins to explore.
Angel Fire has a dry continental climate with plenty of snow during the cold winter months due to its high elevation at 8,600 feet (2,621 m). From November to April overnight temperatures average as low as -7°C (19°F). In summer the temperatures quickly rise to around 28°C (82°F) in July with 10-12 hours of sunshine daily. The area is generally dry with occasional showers possible throughout the year, most likely in midsummer.
The nearest international airport to Angel Fire is Denver International (DEN) Airport which is about 320 miles away. Visitors can pick up a hire car and make the 6 hour journey to their ski chalet in Angel Fire by driving along the I-25, or take a connecting flight to one of the local airports such as Angel Fire (AXX) Airport, Taos Regional (TSM) airport or Santa Fe Municipal (SAF) Airport, a little further away.
