The delightfully named Hope Cove is on the South Devon coast near Kingsbridge. It is a sandy cove between two headlands with parking, a beach shop and café. The sandy beach has some rock pools. It is popular for sailing and watersports and there is a slipway at nearby Inner Hope. The water is superbly clear and scuba divers enjoy the many shipwrecks in the area. Visitors often share the cove with dolphins and seals.

Visit Burgh Island

Tiny Burgh Island can be reached by walking across the causeway at low tide or take the big-wheeled tractor ride. The island has a private hotel, which was built in 1929 by Archibald Nettlefold. It has wonderful Art Deco features including a stained glass cupola in the Peacock Bar. The hotel was a favourite with Agatha Christie, who used it as the setting for two of her thrillers.

Bigbury-on-Sea is the largest sandy beach in South Devon which is popular with windsurfers and bathers and the soft sand is perfect for children to play on.  . Slapton Sands is a beautiful area of unspoilt sand dunes and safe bathing and the Blue Flag Beach at Blackpool Sands are both an easy drive away.

Exeter

The county seat of Exeter is worthy of a full day’s visit and is about 45 miles from your Hope Cove holiday home rental. Take a guided tour to learn the history behind the old buildings, explore the impressive Cathedral founded in 1050 and admire the Guildhall which is the oldest municipal building still in use in England.

Dartington

This small rural village has an interesting collection of craft shops, gardens and a restaurant at the old Cider Press Centre. It also has a huge shop selling locally made Dartington Crystal. Visitors can also enjoy walking along the river to Totnes, about 2 miles away.

Totnes

This historic river-port town makes a lovely day out. The many independent shops, selling everything from shoes to antiques, line the steep Fore Street. At the top is a small open market. The town also has a historic castle which is open to the public and a local museum.
