Downderry has its own wide spacious beach made up of a mixture of sand, shingle and pebbles and the scenic backdrop of the cliffs. Fishing is very popular in Cornwall with boats taking holidaymakers on sea fishing trips and there are many rivers and streams where angling is permitted.

There are a number of golf courses in the area including Whitsand Bay Hotel Golf & Country Club in Torpoint and Looe Golf Club, both of which are approximately three miles from Downderry. There are many scenic walks in the area including along the beach to Seaton and Bodmin Moor is within easy reach by car, with sites of historic interest and unusual rock formations to be seen at Minions village.

There are a few restaurants and pubs for people on a self catering holiday to eat at during their stay at Downderry. The village includes a post office/grocery shop, a pub with fabulous views over the Bay as well as a restaurant and a coffee shop in the square. Visitors looking for larger shopping centres and different restaurants and bars can travel about half an hour to Plymouth in Devon.

Plymouth Airport can be reached via the A38 and is about a half hour drive from Downderry, and has Airsouthwest operating here with flights to and from several UK cities including Bristol, London, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle and Glasgow as well as Dublin and Grenoble. St Germans train station is approximately three miles away and connects to Liskeard station, which in turn runs a service to London Paddington. Downderry also has a bus service to Plymouth, Liskeard and Looe.
