This medieval sandstone fortress makes an interesting focal point overlooking the city. The 12th century keep is the oldest part of this frontier fortress, built when border disputes and sieges were commonplace. Its fascinating history includes the imprisonment of Mary Queen of Scots, the Civil War Siege and the Uprising led by Bonnie Prince Charlie.
Combine a scenic walk through this natural wooded valley with an ever-changing exhibition of local sculptures and artwork. These life-size creations are imaginatively displayed in their outdoor setting to the sound of birdsong. The Sculpture Valley also has a farmhouse tea room.
