Side has excellent beaches for families and couples happy to relax or play on the golden sand. The west beach has shallower water than the east beach and is more suitable for children. Golf is a quickly developing pastime in Turkey with many splendid courses including ones in Side. Approximately 35 kilometres from Side is the largest aquapark in the Turkish Mediterranean region. Side enjoys long hot summers and short mild winters. July and August are the hottest months with an average high of 34 degrees centigrade, but it is not unusual for the temperature to reach as high as 40 degrees centigrade. Summer months see the almost no rain and about 11 hours of uninterrupted sunshine. December to February sees average high temperatures in the mid teens and this is when the area experiences its peak rainfall.
