Turkey’s Manavgat area is becoming a popular destination for holidaymakers looking for self-catering accommodation on the Mediterranean coast, and offers a quieter alternative to some of the larger resort towns like Marmaris and Fethiye. Located in the province of Antalya on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast, Manavgat is east of the city of Antalya. Beautiful beaches, small towns, classical ruins, and great weather make this a popular choice for couples, groups and families.
The multitude of beaches in the Manavgat area is just one of the many attractions of this destination, however a good number of Manavgat area villas and apartments have their own swimming pools anyway, but it’s nice to enjoy a beach occasionally! The town of Manavgat is at the centre of the growing tourism industry and Manavgat Waterfall is one of the major attractions. This powerful waterfall is on Manavgat River, where, further upstream you will find the impressive Oymapinar Dam too.
The ancient town of Side (pronounced Si-day) is the Manavgat area’s biggest attraction though. Now a popular coastal resort town, Side is famous for its classical ruins and ancient harbour. The Great Gate, the Theatre, and the Temple of Apollo are the major sights, plus Side features many excellent restaurants to eat in, and shops and stalls to buy local handicrafts and souvenirs in.
With miles of coast to explore you should allow yourself time away from your Manavgat area villa at least a few times during your stay! To the west is the largest city of the region, Antalya. Well worth a day visit, Antalya is a bustling city with many historical attractions. To the east is the resort city of Alanya where you’ll also find historical sites, beaches, a go-kart track and more!
The typical Mediterranean climate of the region makes Manavgat area accommodation very popular during the hot summer months, and popular too during the mild winters. The average high in July and August is around 30C, and even in January an average high of around 15C is very pleasant, however winter is the region’s rainy period.
In the immediate Manavgat area there are no international airports, but there are several to choose from along this Antalyan coastline. Antalya itself has an international airport to which a good choice of airlines fly, and this is only a short drive to your Manavgat area accommodation. Further away, another option is Dalaman Airport.
